Hollywood studio sees cost-saving benefits of bitcoin

“Film and TV production and post-production studio Kaufmann Media Group (KMG) recently announced plans to implement bitcoin acceptance as part of a wider initiative, one that will help it clip costs on upcoming projects such as Tammy and the sequel to Ironclad. Jodi Levy, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles- and North Carolina-based coloring, mixing and editing company, discussed how bitcoin is uniquely suited to the world of TV and film, where shoots happen worldwide. Also, directors, producers, actors and their families travel to destinations without easy access to banks, plus, production staff are consistently burdened by the costs of currency exchange.”

Don’t Expect Bitcoin to Die Off Anytime Soon

“‘There’s an entire push to legalize virtual currencies while never moving from the fact that they want to be decoupled from the global banking system,’ said Micah Willbrand, director of EMEA risk and payments at Accuity, which provides software ensuring banks meet global compliance standards.  In the future, he said, its benefits might make it a competitive candidate for trade on global stock exchanges, or the currency of choice for big oil companies that make massive international transactions at the cost of high transferring fees.”

Free Money for Everyone

“Though much uncertainty remains about the future of Bitcoin, there is one reason why people interested in free markets should take note: We are being treated to a rare glimpse of what free-market competition and entrepreneurship in a monetary good would look like.  Without any central regulation, there are scores of Bitcoin entrepreneurs working at making it easier to understand and to use Bitcoin. These entrepreneurs are challenging conventional ideas about what the market can supply and what it cannot, for money is one of those goods that is strictly regarded to be in the domain of government provision.”

A Bitcoin for Your Thoughts

“Chances are you’ve heard something about Bitcoin (BTC) by this point, maybe from people who own a couple of bitcoins and think they’re pretty neat. We’ve been covering Bitcoin for a while here ourselves (check out today’s ‘Anything Peaceful’ blog post), and for good reason: It’s part of some exciting trends. But what’s it really like to live with BTC? Or, more to the point, to make an actual living from BTC, turning this arcane bit of coding into housing, food, clothing, and all the other real-world stuff money’s pretty handy for? We decided to ask a BTC trader, who wishes to remain anonymous, for some commentary from the inside of the BTC community.”

The First BTC “Fair Value” Reco Has A Stunning Price Target

logo3

“Considering what we know about the world, I personally believe that Bitcoin may well explode in value as more and more people begin to use it.  If you stuck $5,000 into Bitcoins and each Bitcoin did go up to a gold equivalent of let’s say, only 100 ounces of gold (not the potential fair value of 700), then at current prices your Bitcoin stash would be worth $3.3m.   Now that’s what I call a tail-risk option. It’s either worth zero or it’s worth a truly outstanding amount of money.  I bet you never thought you’d see this in a macro publication. But I’m serious. This just might work.”

How 7.9 million people adopt Bitcoin in the Middle East

“Today’s post is about a small country that inhabits 7.9 million people in the middle east called Israel. Since I live in Israel I decided to take this week and explore how this small country which is pretty keen on new technologies is adopting Bitcoin. Here’s what I found.  There is a very active community of Bitcoin enthusiasts in Israel. 773 members total meet at least once a month to discuss different Bitcoin issues and ideas. Also the Israeli Bitcoin Facebook group is one of the largest in proportion to Israel’s population with over 1,000 members.  So it seems that Israel, although very small is adopting Bitcoin quickly.”

Demo of Liberty Kiosk bitcoin kiosk machine

“The machine will retail for less than $2,000 for a single unit.  Made of 16 gauge steel, it weights about 25 lbs, measuring 12″x12″x10″.  The machine allows you to buy digital currency by generating a cryptographically-signed message which when entered online allows the operator to verify how much money you entered into the machine. Using that information, the operator sends you the amount digital currency owed in exchange for your fiat currency.  Similarly, if you send digital currency to the operator, they can generate a cryptographically-signed message which when entered into the machine tells the machine how much fiat to dispense.”

Cyprus stock market woos Chinese listings

“Shattered by an international bailout that stripped it of 80 per cent of its turnover, Cyprus’ stock exchange is aiming to be a magnet for Chinese firms seeking a foothold in Europe.  The bourse’s lesser-regulated Emerging Market has 16 firms listed with a capitalisation of €702 million, including one with Chinese investors.  Metaxas said bourse authorities had given preliminary approval for a second Chinese listing and the listing application of a third would be discussed at a board meeting this month.  Chinese firms were attracted by a lack of red tape, ease of access to key officials, Cyprus’ euro-zone membership and the absence of a capital gains tax on share transfers, Metaxas said.”
