Utah Bill Would Enable Post-Arrest Collection Of DNA Samples

“According to utahpoliticalcapitol.com, the state legislator in Utah is advancing legislation to allow law enforcement officers to take DNA samples from suspects at the time of booking for any felony offense. Currently, Utah takes DNA from a prisoner after they have been convicted of a felony. Amendment HB 212 is written in a way that would allow the State to forcibly take DNA from anyone booked for a felony offense all the way back to January 1, 2011. The amendment also allows the DNA of minors over the age of 14 to be confiscated and filed in a national database.  The House voted on Tuesday to approve the bill 43-28.”

Associates defend anti-gun activist found carrying gun inside school

“He was a well-known face in the movement for the SAFE Act, the state law that made carrying a gun on school property a felony. He was also a familiar presence in the hallways of the city’s Harvey Austin Elementary School, where he worked in the after-school program and mentored students.  No one imagined that on Thursday he would show up at the school in possession of a gun, touching off an hours-long lockdown, search and ultimately his arrest on two felony charges.  He was among local activists who stood with Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples-Stokes last year lobbying for a law that would make possessing a gun on school property a felony.”

Teenager shot dead after cop mistakes Nintendo controller for a gun

“A teenager has been shot dead by a policewoman who thought his Nintendo Wii controller was a gun.  Officers visited 17-year-old Christopher Roupe’s home to serve a warrant on his father over a probation violation.  But when the teenager opened the door to let them in, an officer shot him in the chest at point blank range.  Police claimed he was holding a gun, while witnesses and the family said it was a Wii controller.  The family’s solicitor, Cole Law, said the youngster was about to watch a movie using his console.  Police have refused to confirm if any weapon was found at the scene following the shooting in Euharlee, Georgia – about 50 miles north west of Atlanta.”

Florida Woman Furious After SWAT Team Orders Her Out of Her Home

“Deborah Franz was told to leave her home by police during a standoff with her neighbor over the weekend. According to WTEV-TV, Franz overheard loud fighting next door, and then saw SWAT team members swarm the street.  After a near 6-hour standoff that blocked off access to most of the neighborhood, the police finally realized that the suspect had escaped the residence and and the SWAT team effort missed him completely.  Usually law enforcement officials need a warrant or permission to enter a home, but one attorney WTEV interviewed said it appears the team used Franz’s home to gain an edge on the suspect.”

He is being held for an extended 90-day period, the charges for which are unknown.  Toine Manders began his career by giving legal advice  to young Dutch men who wanted to avoid military conscription.  Toine Manders had attracted special attention from the government by running controversial ads that stated ‘Taxation is theft’, and that it was people’s moral duty to pay as little in taxes as possible, as the government is a criminal enterprise.”

They will go down for many years… bringing us even closer to the Japanese model.  Our guess now is that this situation will persist for a few years.”

Maker Of Candy Crush Game Just Filed For A $500 Million IPO

“King, the maker of the popular mobile game Candy Crush, just filed to raise $500 million in an IPO.  Their growth numbers are insane. Here are the key numbers.  Note the revenue chart. In Q4 2012, total revenue was $71 million. A year later, that jumped to $632 million. And the margins are big. On that $632 million in revenue, they booked $269 million in profit.  It’s worth noting that several metrics actually show a tiny dip in Q4 vs. Q3 of last year, which might raise an eyebrow.  Meanwhile, you should read their risk factors. The basic gist is that the company’s growth is insane, but that it’s basically a one-hit wonder, and it may be hard to keep that up.”
