He first tried police headquarters, only to find it deserted. Next he tried a sub-station located on Tucson’s ‘Miracle Mile.’ It, too, was locked and dark.  Finally, Leverett drove himself straight to the Pima County Jail, and only there was he able to surrender to authorities.”
