Not a Peep from Obama: Violent Crime Now at a 42-Year Low

“Last week, the FBI released its national crime report for 2012.  By a slight margin, the nation’s violent crime rate decreased in 2012–relative to 2011–making it the lowest it has been since 1970.  Compared to 1991, when it hit an all-time high, violent crime is down by 49 percent.  The nation’s murder rate was unchanged in 2012; still lower than any time since 1963 and at nearly an all-time low.  Between 2011 and 2012, 24 states and the District of Columbia experienced decreases in their murder rates.  There was no correlation of these trends with the severity of the states’ or the District’s gun control laws.”

NSA surveillance goes beyond Orwell’s imagination: Guardian editor

“The potential of the surveillance state goes way beyond anything in George Orwell‘s 1984, Alan Rusbridger, the Guardian‘s editor-in-chief, told an audience in New York on Monday.  Speaking in the wake of revelations about the extent of the NSA’s surveillance operations, Rusbridger said: “Orwell could never have imagined anything as complete as this, this concept of scooping up everything all the time. ‘This is something potentially astonishing about how life could be lived and the limitations on human freedom,’ he said.  Rusbridger said the NSA stories were ‘clearly’ not a story about totalitarianism, but that an infrastructure had been created that could be dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands.”

One man’s ObamaCare nightmare

“Andy and Amy Mangione of Louisville, Ky. and their two boys are just the kind of people who should be helped by ObamaCare. But they recently got a nasty surprise in the mail. Insurance for the Mangiones and their two boys,which they bought on the individual market, was going to almost triple in 2014 — from $333 a month to $965.  The insurance carrier made it clear the increase was in order to be compliant with the new health care law.  The President’s new law, the Affordable Care Act, for the Mangiones will be anything but affordable because the law adds a new tax on every insurance policy and requires a list of additional benefits the Mangiones didn’t want to pay for.”

Obama ‘Hope’ poster artist says drones have killed hope

“The artist who created the iconic ‘Hope’ posters during President Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign says he’d choose a different caption now.  A camera crew from TMZ asked Shepard Fairey if he’d use the same word underneath his portrait of then-Sen. Obama, given his track record as president.  The 43-year-old Fairey paused for a moment as he and a companion got into a waiting vehicle.  ‘I’d put a few different ones,’ Shepard said, adding that some of them may not be fit for print.  Then he turned back around to face the crew, thinking of an idea.  ‘How about drones?’ Fairey said.”

He was from a distinguished banking family in Germany. He married the daughter of the founder of Kuhn-Loeb, and he became a major figure in that investment bank, beginning in 1902.”

“Obama and his IRS are bypassing Congress and rewriting Obamacare on their own.  The IRS is imposing health insurance mandates on employers and individuals even in states where by law they’re exempt (http://shar.es/iI2HW). Obama also broke the law by extending the deadline for the employer mandate by a year. He bypassed Congress in making these arbitrary changes. He’s picking and choosing which provisions to enforce, and when. Neither Obamacare nor the Constitution give him that discretion. His actions are illegal. And he’s setting a precedent that will allow future presidents to ignore or rewrite legislation. But his lawlessness exposes a truth…”

Just 20 per cent of Obama’s Twitter buddies are real people who are active users. Overall, the five most influential accounts linked to the Obama administration – the first lady has two – account for 23.4 million fake followers. Biden’s nonexistent fans make up 46 per cent of his Twitter total, with 20 per cent being ‘real’ followers. The White House’s followers are 37 per cent fake and 25 per cent active; the first lady’s primary account is 36 per cent fake and 29 per cent active.”
