A Government Turning the Tools of War on Its Citizens

“While poets and psychologists talk about soldiers bringing the battlefield home with them, in fact, the U.S. is doing just that. More and more, weapons, tactics, techniques and procedures that have been used abroad in war are coming home, this time employed against American Citizens.  Today’s front-page article in the Washington Postconfirms that wartime surveillance blimps– aerostats– used in Iraq and Afghanistan will now monitor most of the Northeast United States. The aerostats will be able to track individual cars and trucks as they move about their business. The Army confirmed that by summer 2014 at least two of these aerostats will be permanently over the Washington DC area.”

Lew Rockwell: American Fascism

“We know about the transformation of the American police, with their paramilitary equipment, their SWAT team raids, and incentive to terrorize people over drug offenses rather than pursue crimes against person and property. We know about the National Security Agency, which can access every American’s e-mails, phone calls, or text messages. And yet too many average Americans have greeted all this with indifference. This indifference, I suggest, derives from the widespread public acceptance of the myth of the state that Americans are taught from the moment they step into a government classroom.”

America Is Plunging Into Kafka’s Nightmare

“We look back at the tyrannies of the past, the monstrous governments, the devastating wars and the unimaginable crimes, and we wonder how it could have been possible. How could the people of that particular generation let such atrocities come to pass? Why didn’t they do something? Why didn’t they protest? Why didn’t they fight back?  We wonder all of this as we absorb the lists of dates, names and actions in books. We are taught to study and wonder without ever actually applying the lessons of the past to the developments of today, instead of placing ourselves in the shoes of our ancestors or recognizing that their struggles remain our struggles.”

Jacob Hornberger: Unlimited Government

hornberger2

“How can this type of government — a government with the omnipotent power to kill people, incarcerate them in military installations, torture them, kidnap and rendition them, and spy,  monitor, and blackmail them — genuinely be considered ‘limited government’? Even if every other aspect of government has limited powers, it’s quite irrelevant. All that’s needed to make a government an unlimited one is one department or agency with unlimited powers.  It goes without saying that the federal government our ancestors called into existence had none of these totalitarian powers. Our ancestors were right to be concerned about the federal government they were calling into existence.”

ACLU: Border Patrol Routinely Violates Citizens’ Rights At Checkpoints

“Border Patrol agents at southern Arizona checkpoints routinely violate the constitutional rights of U.S. citizens with illegal searches and other actions despite the agency’s mandate that stops be limited to immigration enforcement, according to a complaint filed Wednesday.  The letter from the American Civil Liberties Union to the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General seeks an investigation into 12 specific cases and a review of checkpoint policies to determine if agents are complying with constitutional guidelines.”

Americans Indifferent About Destruction of Fourth Amendment

“Polls also indicate a majority of Americans believe the whistleblower Edward Snowden is a criminal who should be prosecuted.  ‘Overall, the public is divided about whether Edward Snowden’s leak of classified information, which brought the program to light, has served or harmed the public interest: 45% say it has served the public interest while 43% say it harmed it,’ Pew Research reported on Monday. ‘Nonetheless, a 56% majority wants to see the government pursue a criminal case against Snowden, while 32% oppose this.’  Defenders of the Fourth Amendment place hope in a positive ruling by the Supreme Court. Following rulings by lower courts, however, this appears unlikely.”

Liberal icon urges Obama impeachment

“Worse than Richard Nixon. An unprecedented abuse of powers. The most un-American president in the nation’s history.  Nat Hentoff does not think much of President Obama.  And now, the famous journalist says it is time to begin looking into impeachment.  Hentoff sees the biggest problem as Obama’s penchant to rule by executive order when he can’t convince Congress to do things his way.  The First Amendment expert still hews left on many issues, railing against former President George W. Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney, the prison at Guantanamo Bay and the National Defense Authorization Act.”

We Vanquish Terrorism When We Refuse To Be Terrorized

FBI agents and CIA intelligence officials, constitutional law expert professor Jonathan Turley, Time Magazine, Keith Olbermann and the Washington Post have all said that U.S. government officials ‘were trying to create an atmosphere of fear in which the American people would give them more power’.  And former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge admits that he was pressured to raise terror alerts to help Bush win reelection. Fear sells.  This didn’t stop with Bush … politicians are still still fearmongering every chance they get. (Indeed, the biggest fearmongerers themselves quietly back terrorism).  Sociologists have shown that fear of terrorism makes people stupid and malleable.”

Fifty States of Fear

“Even though the U.S. has revoked freedoms during wartime (and for some groups in peacetime), for most of its history the people have not been under the yoke of an all-powerful sovereign. However, since 9/11 leaders of both political parties in the United States have sought to consolidate power by leaning not just on the danger of a terrorist attack, but on the fact that the possible perpetrators are frightening individuals who are not like us.  Last year President Obama brought the enemy closer to home, arguing that ‘we face a real threat from radicalized individuals here in the U.S.‘ — radicalized individuals who were ‘deranged or alienated individuals — often U.S. citizens or legal residents.'”

This is what armed revolution looks like

“It’s almost exactly like that scene from V for Vendetta.  You know– the part in the end where swarms of people go up against the police with their sticks and Guy Fawkes masks…  That’s what’s happening in Ukraine right now. And with reason.  After weeks of student protests over the government’s failure to sign a European integration and association treaty, the police violently cracked down on protestors, and politicians passed a series of new laws in the middle of the night.”
