HSBC won’t give me more than £1k of my own cash over the counter

“I went to withdraw £10,000 cash from my HSBC account in Swindon which is in credit by about £50,000.  However, HSBC will not let me take out anything over £1,000 cash over the counter. I gave them warning, but they say they must know what I will use it for – they want to see evidence of hotel bookings etc.  In short, they refuse to give me my cash. HSBC say it is new internal rules to help prevent money laundering. But for example, what if I want to buy a £5,000 car? It said I’d have to put down a deposit and show them the receipt first.  I find this outrageous and an invasion of privacy – why do HSBC get to decide what I do with my money?”

Man pulled over, harassed for having permit but no gun

“Ten minutes after an officer took Filippidis’ license, registration and proof of insurance to his patrol car, he returned the documents, ordered him out of the vehicle and told him to hook his thumbs behind his back and spread his legs.  ‘You own a gun,’ the officer said. ‘Where is it?’  ‘At home in my safe,’ Filippidis replied.  Right about this time, one has to ask, How did they know he was a gun owner? And why was he stopped in the first place? The officer called in backup and spent the next two hours searching the Explorer and its contents. Probable cause of what? Legally possessing a firearm?”

“American police are taught to treat any act of non-compliance as ‘resisting arrest,’ a supposed offense that justifies the use of pain compliance and – in cases like that of Kelly Thomas –lethal force, if it is necessary to subdue the victim. In fact, most police who go ‘hands-on’ with a victim will pre-emptively shout ‘Stop resisting!’ even when no resistance is offered. Any incidental contact with the sanctified person of a police officer is treated as criminal battery or even aggravated assault.  Interestingly, this doesn’t appear to be the case in North Korea.”

North Dakota Man Sentenced to Jail In Controversial Drone-Arrest Case

“The first American man arrested with the help of a Predator drone has also become the first man who will go to jail because of it.  Tuesday, Rodney Brossart, a North Dakotan cattle rancher, was sentenced to three years in prison, with all but six months suspended, for terrorizing police officers who were trying to arrest him at his property in 2011. The strange case garnered national attention because it was the first time a law enforcement agency had used an unmanned aerial vehicle to assist in carrying out an arrest.”

Judge reaffirms ‘Constitution-free zones’ near border

“A federal judge who endorsed ‘suspicion-less’ searches of laptops, cameras and cell phones at the border has set up a possible Supreme Court showdown challenging what critics call ‘Constitution-free zones’ and the Obama administration’s dragnet approach to national security.  A decision by Judge Edward Korman upholding the federal government’s right to search travelers’ electronic devices at or near the border conflicts with a similar ruling in California. That ruling requires a ‘reasonable suspicion’ of criminal activity before agents can confiscate and examine personal photos, laptops and files. Korman’s ruling does not.”
