“Former Massachusetts governor Romney and fellow Republicans raised more than $111 million, continuing a string of high-dollar hauls.  While Obama shattered every fundraising record in 2008 after becoming the first presidential candidate to opt out of a federal matching funds system, Romney has outpaced him significantly on the fundraising front since April.  That has added to a cash advantage on the Republican side that is helped by the success of outside groups, or Super PACs, that have spent lavishly in support of the Republican candidate with unlimited funds from millionaire donors.”

GOP Suing to Keep Third Parties Off Ballot in November

“Around the country, the Republican Party is mounting legal challenges to keep third-party candidates off the ballot in November.  In recent weeks, with the full support and legal assistance of the Republican Party, [Gary] Johnson’s ballot status has been challenged in Michigan, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, Iowa and now Ohio.  And on August 21, the Constitution Party withdrew their petition to get on the ballot in Pennsylvania. The decision came after multiple warnings of the court costs by attorneys for the Republican Party, who have challenged the Constitution and Libertarian parties’ ballot petitions.'”

[It is indeed difficult to tell the difference.]  “Arizona’s Republican governor Jan Brewer has been left red-faced — again — after mistakenly endorsing President Barack Obama in a live television interview.  She was speaking to MSNBC after the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, formally annointed Mitt Romney as its candidate to take on Obama for the White House in November.  Afterwards she admitted she had had a ‘brain freeze.’ There was no immediate explanation for her unintended Obama endorsement.”
