27-year veteran detective stole $1,900 from evidence room, chief says

Detective Jeanette Hevel stole $1,900 in money orders from the TPD evidence room in December of 2011, Castor said.  She then deposited them into her personal bank account, the chief added.  The money orders had been seized as part of a tax fraud investigation.  Castor said she learned from the IRS three days ago about the theft.  She was arrested Friday and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.  Castor said she had been with the department since 1986, and said she had a ‘stellar’ career.”
