Isn’t It High Time We Legalize Marijuana?

The prohibition of marijuana and other drugs has produced unintended consequences not at all unlike those that resulted from the prohibition of alcohol in the twentieth century.  As events like Hempfest demonstrate, prohibition has done very little to stop people from getting drugs of all kinds, and it has also done little to prevent the emergence of a thriving community of marijuana enthusiasts.”

[Truth is for everyone else, naturally.  But where does SEC get this authority?]  “The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) voted Wednesday to force corporations to disclose whether they use minerals like tantalum, tin, gold and tungsten purchased from African conflict zones in and around the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).   So-called ‘conflict minerals’ are seen as fueling much of the fighting in the DRC, with government troops and local militias locked in bitter struggle to control illicit mining operations.”

And I feel like the real story of Congress right now is very much removed from any of that, from the sort of theater of the policy debate in Congress, and it has become such a complete theater that none of it is real. … I feel like I am, as a reporter in the Capitol, lied to every day, all day. There is so little genuine discussion going on with the reporters. … To me, as a reporter, everything is spin.”

Judge: ‘Everything they say is a lie’

“A New York judge who says a police officer struck him after apparently mistaking him for a heckler is blasting Queens District Attorney Richard Brown for refusing to prosecute. Judge Thomas Raffaele claims Brown is orchestrating a cover-up and a press release explaining the refusal to prosecute is full of falsehoods, Raffaele told the New York Law Journal. ‘Everything they say is a lie.’  [The judge] said investigators didn’t contact his witnesses until he complained. ‘Given the way the officers lied to cover up what this guy did who hit us, I have to wonder if the same cover-up attitude extends to the detectives in the DA’s office.'”

Judge orders release of detained Marine veteran Brandon Raub

“A Hopewell circuit court judge has ordered that a Marine veteran detained over anti-government Facebook posts be released from a psychiatric hospital.  CBS 6 News’ Catie Beck said the Judge Allan Sharrett dismissed the case Thursday against Brandon Raub. The judge said the original petition for Raub’s detention contained no facts. In other words, there was no information on why Raub was being held — and the judge deemed this violated his civil liberties. Federal agents contend that Facebook posts made by Raub were ‘terrorist in nature.'”

This is a total lie. The U.S. supported Iraq against Iran in their war. The U.S. supplied dual-use technology to Iraq.”

State Department condemns Zimbabwe raids on LGBT rights group

We call upon the government of Zimbabwe to end this pattern of abuse and to eradicate the culture of impunity that allows members of the security sector to continue to violate the rights of the Zimbabwean people,’ she said.”
