Cute, Jack-Booted Kid-Thugs

“The police state likes to get them accustomed to the drag while they are young. Troy, a ritzy suburb of Detroit and the center of posh Oakland County, is preparing for dissenters traitors non-compliant people civil unrest and having high school ‘models’ show off the tools of the trade. (Scroll down and look right.)  In fact, regional police have been banding together to develop civil unrest deployment units that are funded by the victims of the police state through Federal Homeland Insecurity Grants. Here’s a photo I took at a ‘feel good about our oppressors day’ at a local beach park.”

“Power Up the Local Police”: A Formula for Despotism

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Standing-Army-300x2232.jpg

“New Hampshire State Rep. Robert Kingsbury exhorts Americans to support their ‘local’ police as a buffer against the federal government (‘Power Up the Local Police,’ letter to the editor, August 6). Were he to focus his attention on the behavior of police agencies in his own backyard, Rep. Kingsbury might appreciate the fact that the ‘local’ police are implicated in most of the institutionalized evil committed by government – and, like the Feds, are unaccountable to the public.”

No Warrant Needed for Illinois Drug Wiretaps

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/000Audio-Technica_ATH-A5001.jpg

“In Illinois, the war on drugs has delivered yet another blow to citizens’ privacy rights. In the Land of Lincoln, it is illegal for citizens to record or videotape Illinois police in public, yet the Illinois legislature last month gave police the right to engage in those very same activities — without a warrant — during drug investigations. Citing police safety and the need for quicker drug arrests, Gov. Pat Quinn (D) signed into law House Bill 4081, which exempts police doing drug investigations from the provisions of the state’s eavesdropping law. It also allows them to audio or videotape drug suspects without having to get a warrant.”

Paying Lip Service to Liberty

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/image1_1401.jpg

“Personally, I look at the Americans and I see a people who have been very effectively brainwashed, or who simply have given in to the entirely human tendency to shuffle unquestioningly onto the path of least resistance and let themselves go.  I see a people who, on a wholesale basis, have consciously or unconsciously decided to trade the idea of America for the false security of a totalitarian state.  Skeptical? Then ask yourself what percentage of the audience would raise their hands in favor if asked the following.”

German customs demands $500,000 from Japanese player for violin

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Screen-Shot-2012-08-22-at-11.36.02-AM.png

“Belgium-based Yuzuko Horigome was transiting through Frankfurt Airport last week after performing in Japan, the top-selling Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper said.  When she tried to walk through the green gate for travellers arriving in the EU with nothing to declare, customs officers stopped her and said she needed to pay 190,000 euros in duty on her 1741 Guarnerius violin.  On top of this were fines, taking the total cost to an eye-popping 380,000 euros ($475,000).  Customs confiscated the valuable fiddle because she could not provide the documents for her 1986 purchase.”

Ikea to build entire district in German city

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Screen-Shot-2012-08-22-at-11.30.31-AM1.png

“Swedish furniture giant Ikea announced plans on Wednesday to build a brand-new district with shops, flats and office space for thousands of people in the northern German city of Hamburg.   The Hamburger Abendblatt said the project would run along similar lines to a planned development in eastern London for which Ikea is preparing to build around 1,200 flats, offices, hotels and shops.  The firm, which specialises in inexpensive furnishings that consumers assemble themselves, last week announced a one-billion-euro ($1.25 billion) move into the hotel sector, opening at least 100 hotels in Europe.”

Homes for the Price of a Car

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/logo3.png

“A house for the price of an SUV? That’s plausible, given the dip in housing. But a home for the price of a Ford Fiesta?  Whoa. Now there’s a value-bending proposition.  While most people don’t think of real estate in prices relative to that of a car, there are houses in some parts of the United States that are for sale with listing prices just like what you’d see at an auto dealership.  The homes featured below compare favorably to standard highway fare: Nissans, Hondas, Fords, etc.”

Doug Casey on Syria and the Global RoboCop

“Doug, I just saw that Obama is threatening the regime in Syria with military force if they use chemical weapons in their fight to retain power. Unlike most of the pundits filling the airwaves with comments, you’ve actually been there. What do you make of what’s going on?”

Jim Bovard: 20 Years Ago at Ruby Ridge – FBI Sniper Slays Mother Holding her Baby

“Today is the 20th anniversary of the killing of Vicki Weaver. Following is an article I wrote on this back in 1995, followed by the response from FBI director Louis Freeh, which claimed that I ‘grossly mischaracterized’ the details of Vicki Weaver’s killing.   I wonder how much controversy such a killing would excite nowadays. It is amazing how much further government prerogatives have stretched in the past two decades. And it is perhaps even more amazing how much more docile many Americans have become towards unmitigated government BS.”
