Fatal shooting of double amputee sparks call for Houston police reforms

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/385x2181.jpg

“Advocates are calling for better training and more discipline after a Houston police officer fatally shot a mentally ill double-amputee in a wheelchair on Saturday, the third unarmed person police have shot in less than three months. ‘How difficult is it, if nothing else, to get away from someone in a wheelchair who has no weapon, has only one arm and one good leg?’ asked Arlene Kelly, co-founder of Civilians Down, a support group for victims of police violence that tracks misconduct. ‘It’s totally and completely needless. Those officers should have had that matter well in hand. The gun should have never been out of the holster.'”

Large manufacturers begin moving production back to the United States

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/toledo_jeep_factory_afp1.jpg

“Watch out China and Canada, ‘Made in America’ has an attractive ring to it these days.  Four years after the height of the financial crisis, marked by a drastic drop in salaries, the United States is again finding favor among manufacturers.  According to a Boston Consulting Group survey and referenced by Obama, 48 percent of executives at companies with $10 billion or more in revenues said they plan to bring back production to the United States from China — or are considering it.”

Landmark lawsuit filed against the EPA for immoral human experimentation

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/epa_particulate_test_chamber1.jpg

“This case involves the intentional exposure of human subjects to ‘fine particulate’ matter, also known as PM2.5. EPA obtained their PM2.5 from a diesel truck. It is difficult to overstate the atrocity of this research. EPA parked a truck’s exhaust pipe directly beneath an intake pipe on the side of a building. The exhaust was sucked into the pipe, mixed with some additional air and then piped directly into the lungs of the human subjects. EPA actually has pictures of this gas chamber, a clear plastic pipe stuck into the mouth of a subject, his lips sealing it to his face, diesel fumes inhaled straight into his lungs.”

Police Shoot Dog & Police Dept Says Case ‘Closed.’

‘I heard ‘pop, pop’ and I screamed out , ‘Oh, God please don’t shoot my dog, and walked to the door and he’s just laying there gasping for breath,’ King said.  King added that the officer admitted his dog never tried to bite him.”

Imperial History of the Middle East

“Who has controlled the Middle East over the course of history? Pretty much everyone. Egyptians, Turks, Jews, Romans, Arabs, Persians, Europeans…the list goes on. Who will control the Middle East today? That is a much bigger question.”

US Senate insists Washington prevent nuclear Iran

http://www.jpost.com/HttpHandlers/ShowImage.ashx?ID=195534

“The only senator to vote against the resolution was Republican Rand Paul, a Tea Party and libertarian favorite, who argued that it was a de-facto declaration of war.  Paul had sponsored another measure that would suspend foreign aid to the governments of Pakistan, Egypt and Libya in response to recent attacks on US interests in these countries, but this was soundly defeated by a vote of 81-10.”

Private Investigators Targeted in Britain

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/surveil1.jpg

“Jake Simons, a Telegraph writer, has penned a column expressing indignation that a former top law enforcement official was privately investigated.  This is surely part of a larger British trend toward lawlessness. We use the word in a different context, though. For us, the investigations into the press, the use of the law to convict homeowners defending themselves and the general effort to make officials above the law is lawless. There are more public cameras in Britain than anywhere else in the world, apparently. The snooping is distinctly one-sided. And it’s getting worse. Here’s to more snooping by the public, not less!”

Enemy at the gait: New cameras identify you by your walk

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/afp-neal-photoleon.n1.jpg

“A new biometric ‘gait recognition’ system has been developed by Britain’s National Physical Laboratory, meaning that individuals can now be recognized and located by their ‘signature’ walk.  Serious privacy concerns have been aired about the system and its potential surveillance applications.  Simultaneous research has been carried out by Professor Martin Hofmann and colleagues at the Technical University of Munich. They have developed an even more intrusive version that takes information from a person’s image, such as shadows on their clothing, creating a considerably more detailed ‘signature’.”

Open Facebook invitation leads to birthday party riot

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Dutch-birthday-riot-screenshot-0922121.jpg

“A mistaken setting on Facebook led to a birthday party in Holland getting overrun Saturday, as thousands of party-crashers turned a girl’s Sweet 16 into a riot.  The girl mistakenly listed her party as a public event, leading to 30,000 people being invited online and between 3,000 and 5,000 people descending on her home in the small northern town of Haren.  The town’s mayor, Rob Bats, said 500 officers had to be called to the scene to disperse the revelers, and evacuate the girl and her family. Local shops were vandalized and looted, and at least one car was set on fire. Six people were reportedly injured and more than 20 people were arrested.”

Why Facebook Would Have Banned Alexander Hamilton and Benjamin Franklin

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/snitching1.jpg

“A story about Facebook went around twitter last night that provoked quite a reaction in privacy advocates like me: Facebook, it seems, is experimenting with getting people to ‘snitch’ on any of their friends who don’t use their real names.  Zuckerberg is getting too cozy with the government and this anti-anonymous rule plays right into the hand of the totalitarian, snooping government that wants to know every move everyone makes.”
