Facebook drops facial recognition tool following privacy investigation

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Facebook-Like-icon-via-AFP.jpg

“Facebook said Friday it had switched off the facial-recognition tool that prompts users to ‘tag’ photographs uploaded to its website following a privacy investigation. The feature was identified by regulators as one of the main privacy threats posed by the social networking site.  Facebook was keen to encourage members to ‘tag’ their friends in photographs because it ensures they are shared more widely, but it has been a controversial addition to the site.”

Anthony Wile on RT News: Arab Winter

“How could all of this have been caused by a short amateur clip on YouTube?  First of all, I don’t believe that it is the cause so much as the spark.  Spreading democracy at the end of a gun barrel or with drones flying overhead, forcing it upon citizens who never asked for the US and the envoys to come into their countries to democratize them, is what is causing these conflicts that you’re seeing today. This crisis is warranted because of US foreign policy and the interventionist style tactics that are utilized in order to occupy these nations and create chaos, out of which centralization is the desired goal.”

Turkish Public Sours on Syrian Uprising

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/19turkey_span-articleLarge.jpg

“The Turkish government is facing a spasm of reproach from its own people over its policy of supporting Syria’s uprising; hosting fighters in the south, opposition figures in Istanbul and refugees on the border; and helping to ferry arms to the opposition. While many Turks at first supported the policy as a stand for democracy and change, many now believe that it is leading to instability at home, undermining Turkey’s own economy and security. Turkey’s call for military intervention, which much of the international community opposes, has only added to the domestic frustration.”

Origins of the Israel-Palestinian Conflict

“The Israeli Arab conflict is the result of interactions of superpowers in the early 20th century. British and French strategic interests in the Middle East were related to the Mediterranean trading route, which went from the Suez channel to Indian markets. But the presence of the Ottoman navy based in the Levant was a direct threat to British interests. So the British and the French decided to divide the Middle East into smaller entities and countries to make it impossible for the Ottoman Empire to control them all. A century later, the legacy of European colonization of the Arab world is reflected by its many ongoing conflicts.”

As Predicted, Third Way Surges to Fore in Middle East

“Just yesterday, a staff report entitled, ‘Islam Yearns for a Third Way, US Intel Will Provide,’ predicted ‘a third way for Islam that will allow Western-style central banking and finance.’  Right on schedule, just as if scripted, Libya has erupted once again as ‘moderate Islam’ battles against ‘radicals.’  It could not be clearer or, of course, more illogical. To make the script work, Western Intel planners conjuring this nonsense have to gloss over just how these ‘radical Islamic’ entities got into Libya in the first place.”

Police chopper, riot squad meet lone anti-Islam cartoon protestor

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Omar-Djellil-is-surrounded-by-journalists-as-he-demonstrates-alone-in-Marseille-France-on-September-22-against-a-French-magazine-that-published-cartoons-mocking-the-Prophet-Mohammed-via-AFP-e13483350176221.jpg

“A police helicopter and 60 riot police deployed Saturday in central Marseille to prevent any protests about anti-Islam cartoons, but only a single demonstrator turned out.  Around 30 journalists were also on hand to witness the man’s attempt to defy an official ban on protests about a French magazine that published cartoons mocking the Prophet Mohammed.  Djellil proceeded to stick posters on nearby walls in the southern port city that read ‘Hebdo Pigs’ and ‘French Muslims don’t need authorisation to defend their rights’.”

Louvre opens Islamic art wing to the public

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/The-Louvre-via-AFP1.jpg

“Paris’s famed Louvre museum on Saturday opened to the public a new wing of Islamic art in a bid to improve knowledge of a religion often viewed with suspicion in the West.  Costing nearly 100 million euros ($131 million), it is funded by the French government and supported by handsome endowments from Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Kuwait, Oman and Azerbaijan.  About 3,000 precious works from the seventh to the 19th centuries are spread across 3,000 square metres (33,000 square feet) over two levels of the former palace.”

Angry bikers protest EU-imposed tests on two-wheelers

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Bikers-stand-next-to-their-vehicles-as-they-take-part-in-a-protest-of-the-Motorcycle-Action-Group-MAG-against-plans-for-a-European-test-for-motorcycles-in-Brussels-via-AFP.jpg

[The State giveth, the State taketh…]  “More than 4,500 angry bikers roared around European Union headquarters Saturday to protest plans by Brussels to introduce regular road-worthiness tests on motorbikes and scooters.  EU transport commissioner Slim Kallas wants to toughen technical tests on four-wheel vehicles and introduce regular compulsory testing for so-called powered two-wheelers in order to keep ‘potentially lethal’ vehicles off the roads.  But some bikers’ groups believe his July proposal to set EU-wide rules are unnecessary and that the new plan is a sop to the vehicle inspection industry which stands to make bigger profits.”

‘Chuck Norris’ bridge linking Austria, Slovakia opens

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Chuck_Norris_award1.jpg

“The 550-metre (600-yard) construction linking Schlosshof in eastern Austria and Devinska Nova Ves is a ‘European signal here at the junction between old and new Europe,’ said Erwin Proell, premier of the state of Lower Austria.  The 4.6-million-euro ($6.0-million) project, 80-percent financed by the European Union, ‘shows that we live in a time in which we build bridges, not tear them down,’ Proell said at a ceremony also attended by Slovakian Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak.”
