“Pat downs and long lines are not the only complaints about Transportation Security Administration people have. For residents of the neighborhoods surrounding JFK Airport, the TSA is causing problems even outside the airport terminal. Besides the parking complaints, Goldfeder said he has heard of blocked driveways, littering and even in one instance a TSA officer changing his clothes outside his car on a public street. Agents can park at the airport and pay the fee but often choose the cheaper option of parking on a local street and taking the subway or AirTrain to their jobs.”

Tennessee: Officer Testimony Beats Hard Evidence in Speeding Case

“Having video evidence backed up by an expert witness that contradicts a police officer’s personal opinion that a car was driving fast would seem to be enough to beat a speeding ticket. Charles W. White, Sr was shocked when a Henderson County, Tennessee Circuit Court sided with the traffic cop’s testimony over the videotape. On August 31, White was even more surprised that a the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the lower court decision.”

Understand The Rules Before You Transport Precious Metals Overseas
“There are two sets of rules with which you must be concerned when you move precious metals across a U.S. border: 1. Rules from the Treasury Department requiring that you report certain movements of currency and monetary instruments across a U.S. border. These rules don’t appear to apply to gold and silver bullion or coins. 2. Rules from the Census Bureau obligating you to make a declaration if the value of certain commodities that you export from has a value that exceeds $2,500. You also need to understand what rules are in effect in the country in which you plan to import your metals, along with every country you transit along the way.”

Backroom Deal Leads To Stricter Cuba Travel Restrictions For Americans
“The United States has maintained a near-total trade and economic blockade against the Republic of Cuba now for 50 years. An obscure division of the Treasury Department called the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) manages and enforces this embargo. Over the last few months, however, these licenses have become much more difficult to obtain. OFAC, while not refusing to renew licenses, has imposed new requirements for their issuance.”

Mormon church threatens to excommunicate member who criticized Romney

“David Twede, a fifth-generation Mormon, told The Daily Beast that on Sunday his bishop and three other church leaders in Orlando ordered him to ‘Cease and desist, Brother Twede’ after they found discussions about Romney at the blog MormonThink.com. Twede said that he felt ‘attacked, cornered, and very anxious’ as the church officials informed him that they had scheduled a Sept. 30 excommunication ‘for apostasy.’ ABC News reported on Thursday that the Mormon church was urging members in Nevada to speak ‘with one voice’ during the presidential election.”
Amish sect found guilty of hate crimes in beard cutting

“An Amish bishop and 15 followers were convicted of hate crime charges in Ohio Thursday for a series of beard-cutting attacks against those they deemed had strayed from the faith. The five separate raids were mainly carried out at night, with the victims forced out of bed, their beards and hair chopped off with horse mane shears and battery-powered clippers, and the roughshod barber work documented with embarrassing snapshots on a disposable camera.”

Walmart plans to open first store in India within 18 months

“US giant Walmart said on Friday it aims to open its first store in India within the next 12-18 months after the government opened the vast consumer market to foreign chains. Up to now, foreign groups such as Walmart could only operate as wholesalers amid fears that big Western retail chains could swamp small family-run stores that dominate the sector. The government signed into law a decision late Thursday to allow foreign multibrand retailers to set up shop in India via joint ventures as it moved to further open up the economy and kickstart sharply slowing growth.”

Housing, Diminishing Returns and Opportunity Cost

“The Fed’s goal is not to relieve debt-serfdom, it’s to enforce it. The entire purpose of the Fed’s policies is to ensure homeowners keep paying interest to banks for the rest of the lives, and to encourage those who are not yet debt-serfs to join the serfdom with a “cheap” mortgage. How did that work out so far? 31% of all homeowners are under water, owing more than their house is worth. 1 out of 6 FHA insured loans is now delinquent. Yup, defaults are rising and the taxpayers will be bailing out the banks once again to the tune of tens of billions of dollars.”
