Fed Pulls QE3 Trigger; Will Buy Mortgages in Effort to Lower Rates

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/ben-bernanke-jackson-hole-2012-2001.jpg

“The Federal Reserve fulfilled expectations of more stimulus for the faltering economy, taking aim now at driving down mortgage rates.  The Fed said it will buy $40 billion of mortgages per month in an attempt to foster a nascent recovery in the real estate market. The purchases will be open-ended, meaning that they will continue until the Fed is satisfied that economic conditions, primarily in unemployment, improve.  Enacting the third leg of quantitative easing will take the Fed’s money creation past the $3 trillion level since it began the process in 2008.”

Federal judge blocks indefinite detention law

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Judicial-gavel-and-law-book-via-Shutterstock1.jpg

“Judge Katherine Forrest issued a ruling that permanently blocked a section of the National Defense Authorization Act signed by President Barack Obama at the end of last year authorizing the detention of US citizens accused of supporting terror groups.  The suit was brought by activists, including former New York Times journalist Chris Hedges and outspoken academic Noam Chomsky, who said the law was vague and could be used to curtail reporters’ and other civilian citizens’ right to free speech guaranteed under the US Constitution’s First Amendment.”

House Votes to Kill Fourth Amendment

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/MLRRogers_ap-resize-380x3001.jpg

“On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to extend amendments added in 2008 to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.  The unconstitutional extension passed by a vote of 301 to 118. 111 Democrats and seven Republicans voted no.  The amendments allow the government to electronically intercept domestic phone calls, emails and other communications without going to a court and obtaining a search warrant.”

Long-awaited ‘Furious’ report places blame on ATF, Justice

“Dozens of senior-level U.S. government officials turned a blind eye to public safety as they pursued an ill-conceived and poorly managed investigation into gun trafficking in Mexico, according to a long-awaited inspector general’s report on Operation Fast and Furious.  It says many senior executives knew the U.S. was helping traffic guns to Mexico that killed people but did nothing to stop it.”

Anthony Gregory: The Right & the Drug War

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/maryj2.jpg

“Drug laws expose the tension within the conservative movement: devoted to localism and nationalism, freedom and law and order, today’s conservatives, if they are to mount a meaningful resistance to the unrestrained bureaucracy in Washington, D.C., must choose between their conflicting values. Many on the Tea Party right have come to regard the Bush-created Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as clumsy and despotic. They cling proudly to their guns and religion. They worry about their privacy in the face of a relentlessly growing central state. But it was the drug war that first shredded the Bill of Rights in modern times.”

The Throwaways: Pawns in the War on Drugs

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/120903_r22514_p2331.jpg

“By the evening of her death, Rachel Hoffman had been working for the police department for almost three weeks. In bureaucratic terms, she was Confidential Informant No. 1129, or C.I. Hoffman. In legal parlance, she was a ‘coöperator,’ one of thousands of people who, each year, help the police build cases against others, often in exchange for a promise of leniency in the criminal-justice system.  Informants are the foot soldiers in the government’s war on drugs.  By some estimates, up to eighty per cent of all drug cases in America involve them, often in active roles like Hoffman’s.”

Colorado, Oregon, Washington or … Uruguay, who will be first?

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Colorado-etc-MJ-leg-300x285.jpg

“Drug policy reform is moving along in the world and 2012 might very well be the year when marijuana will become legal in some part of the world, more precisely, somewhere in the Americas.  Uruguayan President Jose Mujica is plugging along with his marijuana legalization initiative, crisscrossing his country and the airwaves with his message, calling for a broad dialog on the issue.  Ex-presidents Rodrigo Borja of Ecuador, and Ricardo Lagos of Chile have joined the club of anti-prohibitionist ex-heads of states.  In the US, all three marijuana legalization initiatives on state ballots are gathering support left and right.”

Colorado’s Marijuana Legalization Campaign Goes To Court Over Deleted Text In Ballot Book

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/s-MARIJUANA-LEGALIZATION-large1.jpg

“The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, the pot advocacy group behind Colorado’s marijuana legalization measure Amendment 64, filed a lawsuit in response to the Colorado Legislative Council’s deletion of ‘Arguments For’ Amendment 64 text in Colorado’s voter guide, known as the ‘blue book.’  The campaign says that the ‘Arguments For’ Amendment 64 section of of the blue book is now just 208 words following the deletion, whereas the ‘Arguments Against’ section is approximately 366 words — meaning ‘Against’ has nearly 75 percent more words than the ‘For’ section.”

Former DEA Heads Urge Holder to Oppose Marijuana Legalization Measures

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/ericholder1.jpg

“Every former head of the DEA since it was created by Richard Nixon in 1973 has signed onto a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder urging him to speak out against the marijuana legalization initiatives on the ballot in three Western states. The former top narcs warned that silence would be seen as acquiescence.  The former top narcs said they were ‘encouraged’ by Holder’s having spoken out against California’s 2010 Proposition 19 and by President Obama’s strong stance against legalization.”

Danish mayor and police at odds over cannabis approach

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/hash_3_crop.jpg

“Copenhagen Police announced late last month that they would once again start cracking down on Pusher Street, largely in response to criticism that they had allowed the freetown’s drug trade to grow unchecked.  But Mayor Jensen argued that the city ‘needs to go a new way’ and insisted it wouldn’t work.  ‘The police have established a Pusher Street group and I’m not going to get involved in that, but I’m just saying that it won’t solve the problem because the cannabis sale will just move somewhere else,’ he said. ‘When Pusher Street was cleared in 2004, the sale of cannabis exploded in other places around the city.'”
