Condoleezza Rice: Chances of strike on Iran ‘increasing’

“The chances are increasing that the sanctions are not going to work in time and that someone is going to have to take out that Iranian program.  I will say this, the United States has to at least demonstrate that we have a useable military option and the Iranians have to believe it. President Obama has said he has a military option. We need to let the Iranians know that we are fully prepared. The United States, not Israel, we are fully prepared to do something about the Iranian nuclear problem.”

In this report he is quoted saying ‘Assad ne mériterait pas d’être sur la terre’. Translated: Assad should not be allowed on the earth or Assad does not deserve to be on the earth.  France has been one of several countries, including the U.S., participating in Assad’s overthrow for months now. His remark crystallizes the lawlessness of their activities on many levels. They have essentially eviscerated the UN by directly trashing the purposes and principles stated in its charter.”

Justice Department won’t bring charges over CIA interrogations

“The Justice Department did not identify the two detainees who perished, but media reports claim the two were Gul Rahman and Manadel al-Jamadi.  Rahman died of hypothermia in Afghanistan in 2002 after being shackled and left half-naked in a prison cell. Manadel al-Jamadi died in Iraq in 2003 while being suspended by his wrists in a position known as ‘Palestinian hanging.’  Federal prosecutors previously reviewed the cases, but declined to prosecute CIA agents for their alleged roles in the deaths of the detainees.”

Airport officials will increase security during DNC

“According to the TSA’s federal security director for Charlotte-Douglas, there are normally around 550 officers stationed at the airport, including 41 behavior detection officers who watch for anyone acting suspicious, six transportation security specialists in explosives and seven K-9 teams.  For the DNC, the TSA is adding 161 officers, including an additional 20 behavior detection officers, five transportation security specialists in explosives and 14 K-9 teams.  The TSA said another 55 other officers will help the Secret Service with screening at Time Warner Cable Arena, the Convention Center and Bank of America stadium.”

“The daughter of Cuba’s vice president has defected from the communist-run island and now lives in Tampa, Florida, the site of the Republican National Convention.  Cubans who set foot on US soil are allowed to remain in the country as part of Washington’s ‘wet foot, dry foot’ policy. Cubans intercepted at sea are returned to Cuba.  The cause of Diaz’s defection is not yet known, but the newspaper said the incident represents ‘a vote of no confidence in the economic reforms (President Raul) Castro has ordered, and that her father has a mandate to implement.'”

Glenda Murillo Diaz, 24, daughter of Vice President Marino Murillo, crossed over into Texas from Mexico, according to a report in the online version of US Spanish-language newspaper El Nuevo Herald.

“Ray Bradbury was investigated by the FBI during the 1950s, with government agents interviewing his peers and putting him under surveillance before concluding that despite being critical of the US government in his writing, the celebrated writer was never a member of the Communist party.  The 40-page cache of the late science fiction author’s FBI files was obtained by the Daily Beast following a Freedom of Information request, and shows the extent to which the FBI had Bradbury in its sights in 1959.”

Police admit to infiltrating Occupy Austin, may have acted as provocateurs

“When the local offshoot of Occupy Wall Street began a five-month encampment in Austin, Texas last fall, the Austin police assigned at least three undercover officers to infiltrate the group.  According to the Austin Statesman, court documents and interviews show that the infiltrators ‘camped with other participants in the movement, marched in rallies and attended strategy meetings.’ It was disclosed at the hearing that Austin Police Detective Shannon Dowell had purchased the necessary pipe and other materials using funds supplied by Occupy Austin, constructed the devices himself, and provided them to demonstrators.”
