“The governor of the Bank of Greece was given a severance payment of 3.4 million euros when he left his former employer, a major bank that he now regulates, documents seen by Reuters show.  George Provopoulos was awarded the sum when he stepped down as vice-chairman of Piraeus Bank to become governor of Greece’s central bank and a member of the board of the European Central Bank in 2008.”

Prince George’s sheriff’s deputy accused of courthouse rape faces $15 million civil suit

“The suit, filed Tuesday in Prince George’s County Circuit Court, levels a host of allegations against Deputy Sheriff Lamar McIntyre, who was charged with second-degree rape in June.  The suit says McIntyre, 32, was in full uniform when he led Precious Elise Reaves, 35, to a basement holding cell away from others and forced her to perform a variety of sexual acts.  At some point, according to the suit, McIntyre took pictures of a naked Reaves.”

Alvin secretly captured the interaction on his cell phone, and the resulting audio is one of the only known recordings of stop-and-frisk in action.”

Supreme Court lets AT&T wiretapping immunity stand

“The US Supreme Court let stand Tuesday an immunity law on wiretapping viewed by government as a useful anti-terror tool but criticized by rights activists as a flagrant abuse of executive power.  The top US court declined to review a December 2011 appeals court decision that rejected a lawsuit against AT&T for helping the National Security Agency monitor its customers’ phone calls and Internet traffic.  Plaintiffs argue that the law allows the executive branch to conduct ‘warrantless and suspicionless domestic surveillance’ without fear of review by the courts and at the sole discretion of the attorney general.”

They are run by states, but they are funded by the Department of Homeland Security.  The report ends with a long list of suggested reforms, none of which will be implemented.
