North Korean shoots officers, defects to South Korea

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/North-Korean-soldiers-via-AFP2.jpg

“A North Korean soldier defected to the South on Saturday through the heavily militarised border, saying he shot dead two superior officers in the process, the South Korean military said.  The Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) that divides the Korean peninsula between North and South was created after the 1950-1953 Korean War.  Four kilometres (2.5 miles) wide and 248 kilometres long, it is a depopulated no-man’s land of heavily-fortified fences, bristling with the landmines and listening posts of two nations that technically remain at war.”

Ingvar Kamprad – Wikipedia

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/tumblr_kw2q3zf5qd1qac6sbo1_4001.jpg

“Kamprad began to develop a business as a young boy, selling matches to neighbors from his bicycle. He found that he could buy matches in bulk very cheaply from Stockholm, sell them individually at a low price, and still make a good profit. From matches, he expanded to selling fish, Christmas tree decorations, seeds, and later ballpoint pens and pencils. When Kamprad was 17, his father gave him a cash reward for succeeding in his studies.  IKEA was founded in 1943 at Kamprad’s uncle Ernst’s kitchen table. In 1948, Kamprad diversified his portfolio, adding furniture. His business was mostly mail order.”

Ikea founder ‘too busy to die’

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/ikeafounder-afp1.jpg

“The 86-year-old founder of Swedish furniture giant Ikea revealed he has no plans to retire and rejected any idea of the company going public in an interview published in Switzerland.  Named by Swiss media in June as Europe’s richest man with an estimated fortune of $37.5 billion (28.8 billion euros) including holdings in the family-owned foundation, Lake Geneva resident Kamprad also rubbished recent reports that he intended to step down.  His sons all have key roles in the business that employs 131,000 people in 41 countries.”

How To Diversify Your Life

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/5445115727_38b974c238_z1.jpg

“The only way to survive, to get off the floor, to build, to have ideas, to create businesses, to have flourishing relationships, is with diversification. And with the greatest invention since the wheel, the Internet, it’s easier to do it now than ever before.  When properly diversfied, nobody can say ‘no’ to you anymore. Disappointments and failures become a natural part of life that you learn from, in the same way you learn from success and opportunity. Intelligence springs forward from the additional creativity. Love comes from the most blossoming part of the social tree you build for yourself.”

France Drops Rape Investigation Into Ex-IMF Head Strauss-Kahn

“Just days after reports that Nicolas Sarkozy may have ordered the killing of Muammar Gaddaffi to help his French presidential re-election bid, rape charges have been dropped against Dominique Strauss-Kahn.  France’s prosecution service said in a statement it had taken the decision after a young woman retracted an allegation against the 63-year-old.  Prior to the French rape charges and similar charges in NYC, DSK was considered the front-runner that would beat Sarkozy.”

Halifax and Lloyds customers unable to use cash machines or pay at checkouts after ‘systems failure’… and they can’t complain because the phones are down too

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/article-0-02B349D6000005DC-152_468x3291.jpg

“Halifax and Lloyds TSB customers hoping to enjoy a Friday night out might have to put their plans on hold after cash machines rejected their cards.  The banks’ clients’ anger has been further compounded after many who tried to phone up to complain discovered that their phone lines were also down.  Some customers reported having to leave their shopping behind while others said they have been left unable to access their bank accounts, just before the weekend starts.  A Halifax spokeswoman said the hitches were the result of a ‘systems failure’, which has affected the group’s telephone systems as well as ATMs and online services.”

Spain Finance Minister’s ‘No Bailout’ Remark Sparks Laughter

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/de_Guindos_Luis_2002.jpg

“‘Spain doesn’t need a bailout at all,’ de Guindos said, straight faced and somber, as mirth spread throughout the audience — even de Guindos’ assistant interpreter couldn’t mask a smile.  Not to be perturbed by the disbelieving audience, whose giggles audibly spread throughout the room, de Guindos said that Madrid’s reform program was sufficient to stave off a full sovereign bailout and that the European Central Bank’s (ECB) bond-buying program would suffice to help Spain recover.”

A Sign of the Apocalypse? The French and Italians Are More Fiscally Conservative than Americans!

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/polling-data-us-v-eu-on-govt-spending.jpg

“When I first saw this polling data, I thought we had some great news. After all, it shows that Americans – by a margin of more than 4-to-1 – want to reduce the burden of government spending.  This comports with data from previous polls, including the 2011 poll showing Americans overwhelmingly view big government as the greatest threat to the nation. But then I noticed that Americans in this new survey are to the left of both the French and the Italians. That’s embarrassing. Sort of like losing a foot race to 500-lb elderly lady with one leg.”

National Bank of Canada foreclosing Americans’ homes over credit card debt

http://freedomwat.ch/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/foreclosurelady-shutterstock-615x3452.jpg

“The National Bank of Canada is attempting to foreclose upon hundreds of American families’ homes in California over old credit card debts, according to a published report.  Bay Citizen reporter Rick Jurgens writes that the bank’s debt collection unit, Credigy Receivables, began filing foreclosure lawsuits recently that take advantage of a loophole in California’s laws that lets them go directly for a debtor’s home even if that property was not offered as collateral for a loan.”
