Anti-drone devices for sale: military contractor claims to have counter-UAV technology

“Domestic drones will soon be soaring through the sky left and right, but a company in Oregon with ties to the US military is marketing a service that they say will make sure private property is safe from surveillance.  The team at one-month-old Domestic Drone Countermeasures doesn’t go into many specifics, but says they can offer services that will make sure Americans aren’t being spied on by hovering eyes in the sky.  The Federal Aviation Administration expects there to be roughly 30,000 drones in American airspace by the year 2020.”

Ten years after war, Iraq emerges as a major arms buyer

“Ten years after the invasion that smashed Iraq’s military, the country has become a major buyer of military equipment, spending billions to rebuild its armed forces.  In doing so, Iraq has become a customer of some of the same companies that supplied the weapons used to attack Baghdad’s troops in 2003.  Some 54 companies from 13 countries participated in the show, advertising equipment ranging from jet aircraft, drones, missiles and shells to gas masks, uniforms and boots.  With a security and defence budget of about $16.4 billion for 2013 and a commitment to rebuilding its forces, Iraq offers significant opportunities for defence and security firms.”

Video shows Pittsburgh cop yelling at bystanders before allegedly tazing man outside bar

“A Pittsburgh police detective with a history of accusations on his record was filmed during another apparent outburst on Sunday, yelling at bystanders and allegedly tazing a man who was trying to leave a local bar.  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette posted video early Monday morning of Detective Frank Rende yelling, ‘Mind your own freakin’ business’ at bystanders before taking out his taser and waving Mark Keyser Jr. away from the bar on Saturday.  The newspaper reported that Rende has been accused of conduct unbecoming an officer more than a dozen times during his career.”

“Chicago police appeared at Rita King’s door after a domestic disturbance complaint. King was approached by a police officer with a taser, arrested and then taken to the police station. She remained handcuffed to a table while she was questioned. Then, allegedly, she refused to be fingerprinted until someone explained why she was under arrest. In entered police commander Glenn Evans who pressed his fist into King’s nose for three to five minutes, repeatedly saying, ‘I’m going to push your nose through your brain.’ King bled profusely, was fingerprinted and was finally released from the station. Americans Are War Weary … And The Neocons Don’t Like It

EPJ13

“Americans may not know what’s going on ‘over there’ or even know where ‘over there’ is on a map. But they do know that it’s very expensive.  Americans also know that the U.S. economy is a total disaster.  CNBC can wave their pom-poms about a rising stock market, and the CPI can say 2% until the end of time. But the truth cannot be hidden. When Americans look at the unemployment surrounding them and the relentlessly rising bills hitting the mailbox, it doesn’t cut it that the propaganda machine tells them it’s only an illusion. The steel-tight system that the warmongers have crafted is eating itself alive.”

Costly Iraq war left U.S. no stronger in Middle East

“The US-led invasion of Iraq overthrew a dictator, but 10 years on the war is seen to have destabilized the Middle East, exposed the limits of military power and left America no stronger than before.  With US forces having withdrawn after the deaths of almost 4,500 American troops and an estimated $1 trillion outlay, there is little soul-searching in Washington today about a war that has faded from public consciousness.  And 10 years after the ‘shock and awe’ that launched Operation Iraqi Freedom, removing Saddam Hussein from power, most analysts and diplomats agree the Iraq war did nothing to improve the US position in the Middle East.”

MI6 and CIA were told before invasion that Iraq had no active WMD, claims new documentary

“British and US intelligence agencies were informed by top sources months before the invasion that Iraq had no active WMD programme, and the information was not passed to subsequent inquiries.  Naji Sabri, Saddam’s foreign minister, told the CIA’s station chief in Paris at the time, Bill Murray, through an intermediary that Iraq had ‘virtually nothing’ in terms of WMD.  Three months before the war an MI6 officer met Iraq’s head of intelligence, Tahir Habbush al-Tikriti, who also said that Saddam had no active WMD. The meeting in the Jordanian capital took place days before the British government published its now widely discredited Iraqi weapons dossier in September 2002.”

U.S. denies alleged plot against Venezuelan government

“The United States on Monday emphatically denied it was involved in any plot against Venezuelan opposition leader Henrique Capriles ahead of the April 14 presidential vote. ‘Let me say it here extremely clearly… the United States categorically rejects allegations of any US government involvement in any plots to destabilize the Venezuelan government or to harm anyone in Venezuela,’ State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said. Capriles, whom the late president Hugo Chavez defeated in October elections, is running in the upcoming election against Vice President Nicolas Maduro, Chavez’s handpicked successor.”

Is The CIA Trying to Kill Pro-US Venezuelan Opposition?

thelrcblog-50016

“That is the claim made by Acting President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro, who served as vice president under the late president, Hugo Chavez.  Maduro claims that the US is plotting to assassinate the opposition candidate for president, Henrique Capriles Radonski, who polls suggest has almost no chance to win, and then pin the blame on the Venezuelan government. This, Maduro asserts, will bring about the kind of instability and public protest that the US has encouraged numerous times from the Color Revolutions to the Arab Spring.”

Economists warn Cyprus will face a recession ‘for decades’ after EU deposit tax

“The controversial tax is seen hitting Russian pockets hard, with experts estimating that Russian deposits in Cypriot banks amount to at least 15.4 billion euros of the estimated 67 billion euros of deposits held by Cyprus banks.  Russian President Vladimir Putin  criticised the proposed tax, describing it, according to a Kremlin spokesman, as ‘unfair, unprofessional and dangerous’.  Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev was equally forthright.  ‘We should say this directly: this simply looks like the confiscation of other people’s money,’ Russian news agencies quoted him as saying. ‘I do not know who the author of this idea is, but this is what it looks like.'”
