New York Mall Kiosks Raided by Homeland Security for “Terrorism” Goods

“Some people still might be unaware of just how long the reach of Homeland Security has become. How about counterfeit goods as possible terrorism? That is what has been suggested fairly recently as DHS has begun to conduct an increasing number of raids in several states over the past few years aimed at rooting out this ‘threat to our liberty and economy.’  Operations such as 2012’s ‘Operation Fashion Faux Pas’ was part of a six-month crackdown that closed 20 businesses. As the video below illustrates, hundreds of others have been swept up in similar raids, many of which began by scouring the Internet for key words and indicators of illegal activity.”

The reality is Americans aren’t that concerned about drones

“Support for the drone program varies across demographic and political groups about like you’d expect. Across pretty much all polling, Republicans, by about 10pts, are more likely to support drone use in general than Democrats, though majorities of both parties support it. Men are more likely to favor it than women, by anywhere from 7pts to 20pts. Again, however, more women favor the drone program in general than oppose it. Why are Democrats and women more likely to oppose drone usage? It’s not because of the program’s murky legality.  Americans’ number one worry is that the program endangers civilian lives.”

U.S. Acknowledges Killing 4 Americans in Drone Strikes

EPJ13

“The Obama administration on Wednesday formally acknowledged that the U.S. had killed four American citizens in drone strikes in Yemen and Pakistan. In a letter to Congressional leaders, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. disclosed that the administration had deliberately killed Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Muslim cleric who was killed in a drone strike in September 2011 in Yemen. The letter also said that the United States had killed three other Americans: Samir Khan, who was killed in the same strike; Mr. Awlaki’s son Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, who was also killed in Yemen; and Jude Mohammed, who was killed in a strike in Pakistan.”

Over 7,700 Americans Have Been Arrested Protesting Big Banks

“While Wall Street has escaped prosecutions, thousands of Americans have been arrested in the course of protests against the banks. As of May 2013, that number is 7,736 — according to the website Occupy Arrests, which tracks arrests. On Monday, dozens of homeowners who have faced abuses by Big Banks rallied outside the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, D.C.  The demonstrators marched to the Department of Justice, where they rallied outside the main entrance. At that entrance, several police armed with pepper guns and other crowd control weapons at first pushed the demonstrators back, and began arresting several activists.”

After You Read This Kid’s Story, You’ll Think Twice About What You Post On Facebook.

“Meet Cameron D’Ambrosio. He’s 18 and lives in a small town outside Boston. He wants to be a rapper and calls himself ‘Cammy Dee’ in his YouTube videos. He’s been locked up without bail for weeks — facing terrorism charges and 20 years in prison — all for something he posted on Facebook. On May 1st, Cam was skipping school and messing around online. He posted some lyrics that included a vague reference to the Boston Marathon Bombing and called the Whitehouse a ‘federal house of horror.’ Shortly after that he was arrested and charged with Communicating a Terrorist Threat, a felony that carries 20 years in prison.”

Watch As City Changes Parking Signs Then Issues Tickets To Cars That Had Been Parked Legally

“Once you find a spot and check all the signs, you should be good, right? Not if the city comes by and changes the signs on you. CBS 2 in New York has security camera footage of this exact thing happening outside of a Manhattan building recently. Cars parked along one side of the street shown in the video are parked legally when the video begins. But as you can see on the video, a city employee comes in and installs a new No Standing Anytime sign. And within 25 minutes of that sign going up, a parking enforcement officer is swooping in to issue tickets — $115 each — to cars that had been legally parked before the sign was changed.”

IRS head Lois Lerner invokes 5th Amendment but may be compelled to testify anyway

“The woman at the center of the IRS scandal refused to testify to Congress on Wednesday, but House Republicans said Lois Lerner botched her attempt to invoke her right against self-incrimination and said they likely will force her to come back and explain why the agency targeted conservative political groups. Ms. Lerner’s refusal to testify shifted attention to her onetime boss, former Commissioner Douglas H. Shulman, who apologized to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee but refused to take responsibility, leaving furious lawmakers warning that the Internal Revenue Service could end up facing a special prosecutor.”

Head of the IMF Christine Lagarde in court charged with embezzlement and fraud

“Lagarde faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail if found guilty of the very serious charges. It was when she was President Nicolas Sarkozy’s finance minister that she is said to have authorised a 270 million pounds payout to one of his prominent supporters, so abusing her government position. The money went to Bernard Tapie, a convicted football match fixer and tax dodger who supported Lagarde and Sarkozy’s UMP party. It came after Dominque Strauss-Kahn, another senior French politician, was sacked as IMF chief following allegations that he attempted to rape a chambermaid in a New York hotel.”

Miss a Little … Miss a Lot

“Goldman Sachs and Franklin Templeton recently published separate studies that analyzed investment returns over the 20-year period from 1992-2011. The results were astounding — even for me, a 30-year market veteran. During this 20-year period, made up of 5,046 trading days, the market returned an average of 7.81 percent per year. However, if you missed the 10 best days during those two decades, your annual return dropped to 4.14 percent. If you missed the best 30 days, your average annual return actually turned negative — coming in at -0.39 percent. And if you missed the best 40 days, your returns fell even further to -2.31 percent.”
