What a case from mid-1700s Scotland tells us about fungibility of money

“CoinValidation’s plan, if successfully implemented, would presumably lead to the blacklisting of some coins based on their past transfer history (e.g. having at some point been sent to/from deep web contraband marketplaces, paid as ransom to malware operators like those of CryptoLocker, stolen, allegedly ‘laundered’, associated with scams/ponzis, etc). In effect, this would destroy the fungibility of bitcoins. Some ‘clean’ coins would be easier to spend and transact with, while other ‘less clean’ or downright ‘tainted’ coins would be more difficult to use. The case Hew Crawfurd brought against the Royal Bank of Scotland in 1749 had the potential for similar ramifications.”

Foreign Governments and Congress Have Scrapped the 10th Amendment

portallogo2

“We live in a nation that is run by federal bureaucrats. There is almost nothing we can do to stop them from interfering in our lives. The United States Supreme Court is hearing a case in which, if upheld by the Court, the Congress of the United States will be authorized to pass legislation that is inconsistent with the United States Constitution, as long as the legislation is an extension of the treaty power.  If the court upholds the case, Congress will be able to override limitations of the federal government that have been imposed by the 10th amendment. This is a 10th amendment case. Wikipedia describes it. The case is almost beyond belief. It has to do with a burned thumb. The case is Bond v. U.S..”

Spain’s solar police to kick in residents’ doors for generating free power

“Whereas Spain once flung money at companies who set up solar power programmes in the country, it now plans to slap a fee on people who create their energy for personal consumption.  The PP’s plan is to raise cash to help pay off their ‘tariff deficit’, or the difference between the cost of operating the country’s electricity grid and the money it rakes in.  ‘Imposed by decree, the reform aims to raise money for tackling a €26 billion debt to power producers which the state has built up over the years in regulating energy costs and prices,’  Australia’s Business Spectator reported.  According to VozPopuli, the ‘payback’ to big energy companies has taken the form of this new Solar Energy Law.”

Obamacare and the New Soviet Man

“All that is missing from Emanuel’s blueprint is the punishment. If America’s youth does not live up to Emanuel’s version of the New American Man, they will not suffer the carnage of the kulaks. No one is suggesting that. But something will be done. And, with government, ‘something done’ always means coercion, even if it comes in the disguised form of an incentive that someone else needs to fund. Obama will not allow his signature legacy to become a signature failure. The extraordinary website problems attending Obamacare may be good news for its advocates. It distracts attention from what could be a far less solvable problem.”

More Taxpayers Are Abandoning the U.S.

“This year will set a record for expatriations by U.S. taxpayers, with at least a 33% increase from the previous high in 2011.  The Treasury Department published the names of 560 people who either were U.S. citizens renouncing their citizenship or long-term residents who turned in their green cards during the third quarter.  That brings the total so far this year to 2,369, according to Andrew Mitchel, a tax lawyer in Centerbrook, Conn., who tracks the data. For all of 2011, the number of published expatriates was 1,781, he said.  Taxpayers who expatriate aren’t required to give a reason, but experts said the overall increase was likely because of tougher enforcement of U.S. tax laws.”

Paul Craig Roberts: The Real Agenda Of The American Police State

withkitties_150_1202

“The police are taught to shoot first not once but many times, to protect their lives first at all costs, and not to risk their lives by asking questions. This is why the 13-year old kid with the toy rifle was shot to pieces. Questioning would have revealed that it was a toy gun, but questioning the ‘suspect’ might have endangered the precious police who are trained to take no risks whatsoever.  The police operate according to Obama’s presidential kill power: murder first then create a case against the victim. In other words, dear American citizen, your life is worth nothing, but the police whom you pay, are not only unaccountable but also their lives are invaluable.”

The Government Plans DNA Tracking Of Those We Are Related To

“The Department of Homeland Security is soliciting information from potential contractors for a new program that the DHS hopes will enable it to use DNA tests to identify criminal suspects and track their family relationships.  Down the road, the goal is to make the use of DNA identification as common as the use of fingerprint identification is today.  If you do not think that this could ever happen, you should think again.  Barack Obama has already said that he wants a national DNA database, and a recent Supreme Court decision has opened the door wide open for one to be created.”

Feds subjected New Mexico woman to vaginal, anal drug search

“Female agents also allegedly pressed their fingers into her vagina looking for drugs.  The woman claims they didn’t discover anything during the on-site strip search, so they took her to University Medical Center of El Paso.  ‘First, medical staff observed her making a bowl movement and no drugs were found at that point,’ Schaur Ives said. ‘They then took an X-ray, but it did not reveal any contraband. They then did a cavity search and they probed her vagina and her anus, they described in the medical records as bi-manual–two handed. Finally, they did a cat scan. Again, they found nothing.’  The ACLU claims the federal agents never secured a search warrant before probing or touching the woman.”

Americans’ personal data shared with CIA, IRS, others in security probe

“U.S. agencies collected and shared the personal information of thousands of Americans in an attempt to root out untrustworthy federal workers that ended up scrutinizing people who had no direct ties to the U.S. government and simply had purchased certain books.  The officials distributed a list of 4,904 people to nearly 30 federal agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, the CIA, the National Security Agency and the Food and Drug Administration.  The unprecedented creation of such a list and decision to disseminate it widely demonstrate the ease with which the federal government can collect and share Americans’ personal information, even when there’s no clear reason for doing so.”

C.I.A. Collecting Data on International Money Transfers, Officials Say

“The Central Intelligence Agency is secretly collecting bulk records of international money transfers handled by companies like Western Union — including transactions into and out of the United States — under the same law that the National Security Agency uses for its huge database of Americans’ phone records, according to current and former government officials. Several officials also said more than one other bulk collection program has yet to come to light.  ‘The intelligence community collects bulk data in a number of different ways under multiple authorities,’ one intelligence official said.  Orders for business records from the surveillance court generally prohibit recipients from talking about them.”
