Bill Bonner: Aiming for Aristotle’s Head

Bill-Bonner2

“Why a city state and not a country state? Why couldn’t people rule themselves? Who was to say who the ruler should be?  You could ask as many questions as you wanted. Aristotle would have just as many silly answers. But even the ancients were on to him.  ‘None of us knows anything, not even whether we know anything or not,’ said Metrodorus of Chios, aiming for Aristotle’s head. But it was the great Pyrrho from Elis who developed the philosophy we know today as ‘skepticism.’ Loosely, a skeptic is someone who suspects that other people don’t know nearly as much as they think they do. And when it comes to central banking and central economic planning, they are always right.”

Convenient Illusions: The 12 Regional Federal Reserve Banks

portallogo2

“What is the function of the regional Federal Reserve banks? They are primarily political. They were specifically set up to provide the illusion of regional control, when in fact the Federal Reserve System is a true central bank, with the powers associated with all national central banks. The central bank creates the monetary base on which commercial banks make loans. The regional Federal Reserve banks do not do this. The regional Federal Reserve banks are now, and have always been, a convenient illusion for misleading taxpayers and voters into believing that the Federal Reserve System is not a central bank, with all of the authority, power, and cartel control of all other central banks.”

ECB cuts rates to new low of 0.25%, euro sinks

“The European Central Bank (ECB) cuts its main interest rate to 0.25 percent from 0.50 percent on Thursday, sending the euro sharply lower. The announcement – unexpected by many – was followed by a press conference with ECB President Mario Draghi, who insisted the rate cut was in line with previous forward guidance.”

Small businesses want Canadians to ditch credit cards every Friday

“The Canadian Federal of Independent Businesses, which represents almost 110,000 small- and medium-sized concerns, teamed up with financial commentator Gail Vaz-Oxlade today to launch a campaign for ‘Credit Free Friday.’  ‘Very few consumers know than $5-7-billion each year in credit card processing fees is embedded in the cost of everything they buy, and with ever-higher tiers of premium cards hitting the market, that cost is only going up,’ CFIB president Dan Kelly said as he launched the campaign. ‘As consumers are often unaware that the merchant loses between 2-3.5 per cent of a credit card sale, Credit Free Fridays can be a great way to support small firms.'”

Premeditation of Currency Wars

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“The BRICs system of finance is entirely Western, starting with its central banking and continuing via its banking interests that are inevitably part of the larger fabric of Anglosphere finance. If those in charge of Western finance really did not want the BRICs – including China – to create an alternative to the dollar, it likely wouldn’t happen. But it is happening. The dollar has been destabilized and the BRICs and China offer alternative currencies that are supposedly seen as ‘stronger.’ Jim Rogers, for instance – a respected voice in commodities and a commentator we’ve often interviewed – believes the yuan could appreciate 500 percent against the dollar in the next few years.”

Hackers steal $1.2m of bitcoins from a supposedly secure wallet service

“Tradefortress, the developer behind bitcoin web wallet Inputs.io, released a statement on his website today, after being forced to close it down in the aftermath of a major hacking incident, saying:  ‘I know this doesn’t mean much, but I’m sorry, and saying that I’m very sad that this happened is an understatement.’  Inputs.io, which was intended to be a high-security bitcoin web wallet, was apparently hacked on the 23rd of October, when thieves stole bitcoins worth over $1.2m at current BPI prices.”

Obamacare Restrictions Lead Brooklyn Couple To Consider Divorce

“‘After Obamacare has rolled out, we realized that we would save thousands of dollars if we got divorced,’ Aronowitz said.  The issue for Aronowitz and Cassara is that together as family of only two, they make more than the $62,000 level to qualify for subsidies under the Affordable Care Act. But if they lived together unmarried, they would qualify for the subsidies and could literally save hundreds of dollars a month on their health care.  A single person can qualify for subsidies if they make less than $46,000 a year.”

Marijuana Legalization Wins Big on Election Night 2013

“The movement to legalize and regulate adult marijuana use continued to gain momentum last night, as voters in four separate cities overwhelmingly approved citywide ballot measures eliminating criminal and civil penalties for adults who possesses the plant. Portland became the first city on the East Coast to legalize possession of up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana for adults over 21.  In addition to Portland, three localities in Michigan (Ferndale, Jackson, and Lansing) all voted in support of marijuana legalization today by huge margins. The three areas had similar proposals to remove criminal and civil penalties for personal possession of up to 1 ounce of marijuana.”
