BTC China Reports 10x Volume Increase From $5m to $50 million

“It was representatives from BTC China who stole the show at day two of the Inside Bitcoins conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Bobby Lee, CEO of BTC China and Malcom CasSelle of Timeline Labs had a number of interesting things to say on the subject. ‘Trading volume has risen from $5m to $50m,’ Lee said about BTC China’s trading platform. Both Lee and CasSelle expect this growth to continue. CasSelle disclosed: ‘We’re transacting 150,000 BTC per day.'”

Bitcoin convention brings out hope for digital currency’s future

“New-found wealth has freed many of the programmers, techies, financial analysts and rocket scientists from their day jobs, allowing them to focus full time on creating the consumer applications, Bitcoin stores and security systems that they hope will vault Bitcoin into the mainstream.  More than 600 people registered for the Inside Bitcoins convention, up from a few hundred at the first Bitcoin conference last summer, says Alan Meckler, CEO of MediaBistro, the conference organizer. The number of exhibitors has jumped from three in July to 22 on Wednesday.  ‘It’s the closest thing to the beginning of the Internet than I’ve ever seen,’ Meckler says.”

At Bitcoin conference, two ‘gurus’ draw a crowd

“In the highly insulated world of Bitcoin devotees, a small clutch of early adopters are treated like rock stars.  Shortly after his panel on investment opportunities, former child star Brock Pierce (The Mighty Ducks) was engulfed by a throng of admirers. He wasn’t surrounded for his acting chops but for making a small fortune investing in Mastercoin Foundation, which lets people create their own cryptocurrency using the Bitcoin computing protocol.  ‘Next year will be the year of Bitcoin,’ says Pierce, managing director of Clearstone Global Gaming Fund and an advocate of virtual currency since the late 1990s.”

They cheered the simplicity of Bitcoin while jeering banks and credit-card issuers.  ‘(This year), Bitcoin will be the single-biggest sector for venture capital investments,’ Brock Pierce, managing director of Clearstone Global Gaming, said to whoops and hollers.  ‘Now, it’s a commodity; soon, it will be a phenomenal currency,’ says James Beshara, CEO of Crowdtilt, a crowd-sourcing mobile platform.”

Jeff Bezos’ Amazonian Drones

“Canada and Australia already have regulations that allow some commercial drone use. In Sydney, Australia, a textbook seller called Zookal says it plans to use six drones to drop off books at outdoor locations. A Chinese company, Shunfeng Express, is testing package delivery in the city of Dongguan.  The profit potential alone means that the commercial drone revolution is inevitable. In September, drone and aerial robotics maker 3D Robotics announced a $30 million funding round from venture capitalists.  2013 may well be looked back upon as the kickoff year for the Age of the Domestic Drone.”
