Marijuana Breath Test, Alternative To Controversial Blood Test For Pot?

“Currently, THC-blood tests are the norm in most states that have laws regulating marijuana use while driving. They generally dictate that drivers caught with THC in their bloodstream at a level of five nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood are considered ‘under the influence’ and may be subject to penalty.  But unlike blood-alcohol level, which have a direct correlation with a driver’s intoxication, blood-THC levels don’t necessarily indicate a level of impairment.  In one study, six of 25 participants who had consumed marijuana still tested positive for active levels of THC after a full seven days of abstaining.”

E-cigarettes to be banned under Oklahoma governor’s executive order

“Fallin said she’s trying to protect state employees and visitors.  ‘E-cigarettes release vapor that contains chemicals that can impact employees and visitors to state property,’ she said. ‘Additionally, many electronic cigarettes look like traditional cigarettes and emit a vapor that looks like smoke. This creates confusion for employees and visitors, and presents enforcement challenges for state agencies.  ‘If you’re a state employee who smokes or uses e-cigarettes, I encourage you to make quitting your New Year’s resolution,’ she said. ‘We have resources at your disposal to help you quit.'”

‘Buckyballs’ magnate says feds took him down for speaking out

“With his million-dollar company belly-up for a product he still believes is safe, Zucker took out online ads lampooning the nanny-state regulatory mentality.  ‘Coconuts: tasty fruit or deadly sky ballistic?’ read one. ‘Stairways: are they really worth the risk?’  Zucker’s company was one of a dozen selling high-powered magnets that faced sanctions from the commission, but it was the only one of three named in the suit that voluntarily went out of business. And now, Zucker is the only individual being pursued personally for a financial judgment that could top $50 million to pay for the recall. Zucker believes it is because he taunted his regulatory tormentors.”

Cook Islands, a Paradise of Untouchable Assets

“These flyspeck islands in the middle of the Pacific would be nothing more than lovely coral atolls, nice for fish and pearls, except for one thing: The Cooks are a global pioneer in offshore asset-protection trusts, with laws devised to protect foreigners’ assets from legal claims in their home countries.  The Cayman Islands, Switzerland and the British Virgin Islands capture headlines for laws and tax rates that allow multinational corporations and the rich to shelter income from the American government. The Cook Islands offer a different form of secrecy. The long arm of United States law does not reach there. The Cooks generally disregard foreign court orders.”

And the Media Gets It Wrong (Again)

“The tax consequences of relinquishing and renouncing are identical. You can read more about them here (scroll down), but basically, if you’re wealthy enough, you’re a ‘covered expatriate.’ That means if you give up US citizenship or long-term US residence, you may have to pay an ‘exit tax’ on your unrealized capital gains. There are also unpleasant tax consequences for your IRAs, pension plans, and some trusts. Future gifts or bequests to future beneficiaries are penalized, too.  Expatriation is not something that the average journalist is equipped to write about. But because it’s politically controversial, the media, like moths drawn to a flame, can’t resist it.”

Paul Craig Roberts: Manipulations Rule The Markets

withkitties_150_1202

“Until a whistleblower speaks, we cannot know for certain, but my conclusion is that the Fed understands that it must protect the dollar from being driven down by QE and that the orchestrated takedowns of gold are part of protecting the dollar’s value, and perhaps also the cutback in QE is a part of the protection by signaling an end of money creation. The Fed also understands that it cannot forever drive down the gold price and that it cannot forever pour liquidity into stock and bond markets. To retreat from this policy without crashing the edifice requires successful orchestrations. Therefore, we are likely to experience more of them in the days to come.”

Even more smuggled gold enters India

mineweblogo4

“In the biggest ever catch at the Hyderabad airport, customs officials have seized 18 kilograms of gold and arrested three people. The trio had arrived from Singapore and were hiding the gold bars in their trousers and shoes. In another incident, officials of the customs department recovered gold hidden in dates from a man who landed at the Pune International Airport.  Investigation revealed that the seeds of these dates had been replaced with gold beads wrapped in black packets.  Gold seizures have almost doubled for the period 2013-2014. Whistleblowers who help bust illegal gold shipments can get a bigger reward in India than those who help catch cocaine and heroin smugglers.”

7 Fundamental Conclusions about 2014

“We now have THREE major, highly profitable megatrends underway — or on the way — and least two of those are very sustainable:  Interest rates are going up for the long term … Gold will be going up, also for the long term, and … Stocks are going up — at least for now.  In all three, since we have so many LIQUID investment vehicles to choose from, we can easily get in while the trend is up and get out when the trend turns down. And since we have one of the most powerful selection tools at our immediate disposal — I am talking about the Weiss Stock Ratings — we can also select the SAFEST stocks, the stocks most likely to hold their value even when the market turns.”

Directed History of the Swiss Tax Settlement

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“The Swiss Banks are making a desperate effort to fulfill US mandates when it comes to cooperating with US taxing authorities. But the vast effort being made shows clearly how difficult those demands actually are.  Probably hundreds of thousands of accountants, lawyers and bankers have been mobilized to install the tracking measures the US Justice Department and tax tracking authorities want implemented.  What is going on in Switzerland is unprecedented and doubtless the Anglosphere behind this operation wants to spread it around the world.  Just reading this article gives one a slight impression of the way an entire culture has been upended in a short period of time.”

Belgian card payment network crashes two days after record usage

“Belgium’s card payment network failed on Monday night, leaving millions of Belgians unable to pay at stores or to withdraw cash from ATMs and self-service terminals inside banks.  Atos subsidiary Worldline, operator of Belgium’s Bancontact-Mister Cash payment network, reported on its website that it was difficult for cardholders throughout the country to make payments or withdrawals from around 4 p.m. local time on Monday. Local media reported long lines to make cardless withdrawals at bank counters. Worldline put its business continuity plan into effect, and payment traffic began to recover from 5.15 p.m., returning to near-normal levels from 6.30 p.m., the company said in a statement.”
