“The Department of Justice (DOJ) program is called Operation Choke Point. The choke point is America’s payment infrastructure through which an estimated $5 trillion in consumer purchases flow each year; more than eight million merchants use it to process credit and debit card payments. The DOJ is targeting banks and payment companies, such as PayPal, with a tsunami of subpoenas and other expensive legal demands. The demands go away if the institutions refuse to do business with people whose activities are deemed ‘objectionable’ although they are legal. The DOJ is imposing its own moral criteria on who can participate in the market place.”

Native American Charged Criminally For Hanging US Flag Upside Down

“A Pennsylvania man who hung an American flag upside down and spraypainted it said he was standing up for the American Indian heritage and exercising his First Amendment rights.  Police, however, took the flag down and charged Joshua Brubaker with a crime: Desecration and insults to the American flag.   Brubaker said he never meant to upset or offend anyone and defended his actions. He and his wife are American Indians and are passionate about the movement.  Brubaker said many in his family served in the military and that gives him the right to express his beliefs by desecrating the flag.  Authorities said there are other ways he could have expressed himself.”

Suit Goes To Bat For Future Taxpayers [1986]

“A lawsuit supported by the National Taxpayers Union and two state attorney generals has been filed on behalf of 60 million children, charging that deficit spending benefits today`s adults at the expense of youth who will have to bear the future burden.  The novel suit names Treasury Secretary James Baker as the defendant, and it seeks to enjoin Baker from issuing any new instruments of federal debt except in certain instances and to compel the establishment of a schedule to reduce the deficit.  It also argued that by forcing children to assume responsibility of debts now incurred by fiscally irresponsible adults, children are being denied equal protection of the laws under the 5th Amendment.”

Angela Merkel approves Germany’s first minimum wage

“German Chancellor Angela Merkel has approved the country’s first minimum wage, at 8.50 euros an hour (£7; $11.75), to start in 2015.  At the moment, the country is one of seven in the 28-nation EU without a minimum wage level.  Germany has relied on trade unions and business groups to fix pay instead.  Mrs Merkel’s conservative Christian Democrats approved the change as part of a power-sharing deal with the Social Democrats (SPD).  The SPD’s labour market policy spokesperson, Katja Mast, said: ‘Labour has got its dignity back with a fair payment of 8.50 euros, whether in the East or West and with no industry exceptions.'”

Swiss voters reject world’s highest minimum wage, block fighter jets

“Swiss voters on Sunday rejected proposals to introduce the world’s highest minimum wage and spend $3.5 billion buying new Gripen fighter jets from Saab.  About 76 percent of voters in the wealthy nation dismissed the proposal made by Swiss union SGB and backed by the Socialist and Green parties for a minimum wage of 22 Swiss francs ($25) per hour, final results showed.  Some 53 percent blocked a plan to replace Switzerland’s aging fleet of fighter jets with 22 Gripen jets from Saab. Just over 55 percent of those eligible voted, the government said.”

Syria air defense head killed by US-backed jihadist rebels

“‘We announce good news to the Islamic nation, of the killing of one of the leaders of unbelief, General Hussein Yaqoub Ishaq, head of the Air Defense Administration in Mleiha,’ the Islamic Front said in a statement.  Assad’s family is from Syria’s Alawite minority, who mostly support the president, and many Christians also back him, fearing the increasingly radicalized Sunni Muslim rebels. The rebels who took over Tel Malah included fighters from the Nusra Front – al Qaeda’s official branch in Syria – the Islamic Front.  Assad is now preparing for a presidential election which is widely expected to extend his 14-year rule for another seven-year term.”

In Syria, US sides with local jihadists to defeat global ones

“The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) is the victim of a US-Saudi decision to get rid of the ISIS burden and rehabilitate the Islamic Front as a final substitute for the Free Syrian Army (FSA).  The US-Saudi plan aimed at replacing the FSA with the Islamic Front started a few weeks ago with attempts by US Ambassador Robert Ford in Antakya, through meetings with Ahrar al-Sham, Suqour al-Sham and Liwa’ al-Tawhid Brigades, and the most prominent leaders of the Islamic Front, to persuade them to return to the FSA General Staff, whose headquarters and weapons stores near Bab al-Hawa they seized, and to join the political process in Geneva.”
