Homeland Security Raids Homes Seizing Vehicles For EPA Violations

“As part of its mission to ‘protect the Homeland,’ the DHS has been busy seizing imported vehicles that don’t comply with safety and CO2 regulations.  Jennifer and Bill Brinkley were satisfied that their $60,000 dollar purchase of a Land Rover Defender on eBay complied with regulations because it fell into the exemption category of a vehicle 25 years or older.  However, when DHS agents turned up at the property, they compared the car’s Vehicle Identification Number to a list and immediately seized the Land Rover. The couple were not given ‘a chance to debate the issue.’  WBTV’s Steve Ohnesorge said DHS agents conducted ‘almost like a raid to get the car.'”

Cuba cracks down on goods transported in travelers’ luggage

“Passengers on flights from Miami said they were bringing in far less than usual thanks to higher customs duties and stricter limits on the number of products allowed under rules that went into effect Monday.  The easing of travel restrictions by the U.S. and Cuban governments over the last five years has allowed travelers to bring in nearly $2 billion of products a year. The government says the new limits meant to curb abuses that have turned air travel in particular into a way for professional ‘mules’ to illegally import supplies for both black-market businesses and legal private enterprises that are supposed to buy supplies from the state.”

“As a result of civilian resistance in the Franc-Prussian war of 1870, the German army in 1914 acted under a draconian code of how to treat civilians. It is now clear that German soldiers, experiencing combat for the first time, often mistook friendly fire for sniper attacks. Frustrated by a stronger Belgian resistance than anticipated, the German military responded with a series of reprisals that were far worse than the accusations of British propaganda.  In this time of Great War remembrance individuals should reflect on the fate of millions of nameless civilians. Afghan policeman kills 7 allies after US general slain in “insider” attack

“U.S. officials prepared to fly the body of a two-star general slain in an Afghan ‘insider attack’ back home, as a similar attack saw an Afghan police officer drug and shoot  dead seven of his colleagues, authorities said.  The investigation into the killing of Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene, the highest-ranked U.S. officer to be slain in combat since 1970 in the Vietnam War, continued Wednesday without any clear answers into why a man dressed in an Afghan army uniform opened fire. The shooting wounded about 15 people, including a German general and two Afghan generals.  The attack at underscored the tensions that persist as the U.S. and NATO troops’ combat role winds down in Afghanistan.”

NATO: The Broken Promise Has Backfired–Ukraine

“In 1989, James Baker III, who had been Reagan’s Chief of Staff, and who was now Bush’s Secretary of State, sat down with Gorbachev. He made a promise: if the USSR took apart the Warsaw Pact, NATO would not move one inch closer to the USSR. In 1991, the USSR was officially dissolved. A new Russian state replaced it — much smaller.  Clinton broke the promise in 1996. NATO has moved steadily eastward, bringing in mini-states that the U.S. government does not need to defend. NATO should have been dissolved no later than 1992.  We are now trying to bring Ukraine into NATO. That has gone too far for Putin, as well as the eastern Ukraine.”

UN Grabs for the Internet: Toward “Global Governance”

It gets its story to its target audiences.  ISIS a year ago was part of the American government’s system of allies in Syria. ISIS was conducting a civil war against Assad’s Syrian government. ISIS was a freedom fighting organization.  Conclusion: ‘Let’s bomb Syria.’  Now we are assured by senior U.S. government officials that ISIS is the #1 terrorist organization in the world.  Conclusion: ‘Let’s bomb Syria.'”
