US gov’t threatened Yahoo with $250K daily fine if it didn’t help spying

“Yahoo reports that it is on the verge of releasing 1,500 pages of documents related to a long court battle over its participation in the PRISM program, a National Security Agency program revealed last summer as part of the Snowden leaks.  A leaked top-secret slide about PRISM shows that Yahoo was one of the first participants, having begun contributing to the database in March of 2008. It did so under severe duress. Company executives believed the government’s demand for data was ‘unconstitutional and overbroad’ and fought it in court.  After it lost, Yahoo was threatened with $250,000 per day fines if it didn’t comply with the program.”

Ameri-Canadians point fury at Uncle Sam over U.S. tax laws

“Go ahead and give up your citizenship.  Just beware that I have a new Exit Tax that you might be subject to.  We deem, or pretend,  that you sold all of your assets and charge you the capital gain tax on those pretend asset sales, though there’s a large exemption.   And also [laughing hysterically and slapping his knee with the palm of his hand] when you really do sell the assets some day [falls out of chair laughing] you’ll have to pay the capital gains tax a second time in Canada.  Love,  Your Dear Leader, President Obama.  PS:  I just decided to increase the fee for giving up citizenship from about $400 to about $3,500.  This should ease the burden of carrying around so much money that you earned.”

Tax Exiles Flee America

Some lawyers admit that they counsel foreign businessmen to consider carefully before seeking American citizenship. It might not be worth the cost and trouble. International tax attorney Andrew Mitchel said, ‘My advice to, say, a small-businessman abroad would be to think twice about acquiring U.S. citizenship.’ In his view the benefits might not be worth the hassle: ‘Many of these people do not realize what that means for their businesses until they start dealing with the IRS.’ Washington’s behavior appears to be having an impact on possible new citizens.”

New ‘Anti-Terror’ Checks On Beijing’s Subway Cause These Lines

“TSA has certified certain foreign airports as maintaining security measures comparable to those of US airports. Travelers flying into the US from these airports are not put through additional security when they arrive. Nevertheless, security at these airports does notroutinely perform pat-downs on travelers with artificial joints. If the TSA itself has certified that security at these airports is equivalent to that of US airports, how can these searches be essential to safety? The official purpose of TSA security checkpoints is to prevent passengers from carrying weapons and explosives onto airplanes.  Why would a terrorist use someone guaranteed to set off a metal detector?”

Russia developing new nuclear weapons to counter US, NATO

“Russia is developing an array of new nuclear and conventional weapons to counter recent moves by the US and NATO, President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday as the military successfully tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile launched from a nuclear submarine.  Putin accused the West of using the crisis in Ukraine to reinvigorate NATO, warning that Moscow will ponder a response to the alliance’s decision to create a rapid-reaction ‘spearhead’ force to protect Eastern Europe.  His comments came as Russia’s relations with the West have plunged to their lowest point since the Cold War due to Russia’s role in the crisis in Ukraine.”

Official 9/11 Claim Disputed That No Airliner Black Boxes Were Found

NC congressman presses for release of censored 9/11 report pages

“President George W. Bush classified 28 pages of the official report related to Saudi connections to the attacks, citing national security concerns, and President Obama has allowed the classification to continue.  But U.S. Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) has read the 28 pages — and he’s now working to get them declassified. Last year Jones was interviewed about the resolution by former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) and discussed how he came to read the redacted pages in a heavily guarded room beneath the U.S. Capitol. In order to read the material, lawmakers must sign an oath not to reveal details about the contents.”
