New Mexico Bans Civil Asset Forfeiture

“Today, Governor Susana Martinez signed HB 560 into law, ending the practice of civil asset forfeiture in New Mexico. Civil asset forfeiture, also known as ‘policing for profit,’ allows law enforcement officers to seize personal property without ever charging—much less convicting—a person with a crime. Property seized through this process often finds its way into the department’s own coffers. HB 560, introduced by NM Rep. Zachary Cook and passed unanimously, replaces civil asset forfeiture with criminal forfeiture, which requires a conviction of a person as a prerequisite to losing property tied to a crime.  New Mexico now has the strongest protections against wrongful asset seizures in the country.”

Video: Cops Shoot, Kill Subdued Man, Mock Him While He Lay Dying

“Tragically the next moments reveal the callous nature of law enforcement as the Harris is manhandled on the ground by the cops, after being shot, with an officer pressing his face into the ground with his knee.  An irate officer can then be seen screaming in the face of the bleeding gunshot victim yelling, ‘You ran! You f–kin ran! Shut the f— up!’ as if running was some type of rational explanation for shooting him.  Harris had been attempting to evade officers that were attempting to arrest him for selling a 9mm and ammunition to undercover cops.  [Despite the video], Tulsa Police Sgt. Jim Clark told reporters at a news conference on Friday that Harris, ‘absolutely was a threat when going down.'”

Officer Caught On Tape Taking $2,650 During Untaxed Cigarette Raid

“NYPD detective Ian Cyrus, 49, was caught on video allegedly stealing $2,650 from a Brooklyn deli during a raid over untaxed cigarettes.  An undercover officer allegedly bought a pack of Newport cigarettes from the deli for $9 which police say didn’t have a ‘tax stamp,’ two employees were arrested as a result and $593 was officially seized, as well as the rest of the untaxed cigarettes.  After local media covered the story, NYPD detective Ian Cryus was suspended without pay, his supervisor was stripped of his badge and moved to desk duty, and another officer involved who allegedly failed to report the deli owner’s complaint was placed on modified duty.”

Secret Service officer charged with attempted burglary, property destruction

“A police officer went to a residence about 12:24 a.m. after receiving a call about a burglary in progress, police documents said.  The officer found the front door with broken hinges, boot prints and two broken windows, the documents say. The woman who lives there told the officer, ‘My ex-boyfriend won’t leave me alone.’   While the D.C. Metropolitan Police officer was at the scene, Baldwin drove up, said he was a police officer and asked to speak with the woman, the police document said.  When asked if he kicked in the door, Baldwin said, ‘I kicked the door but did not … break the windows,’ the document said.”

Police Chief: Secret Service Told Us To Fake A Warrant

“Nashville’s police chief is raising stunning new allegations regarding the U.S. Secret Service, saying local agents once asked his officers to fake a warrant.  Even more disturbing, Chief Steve Anderson said he complained to top Secret Service officials in Washington, and they did not seem to care. In the Nashville case, a Secret Service agent made a frantic call for backup to Nashville police after he and another agent went to the home of a Nashville man, investigating threatening comments on Facebook about the President. ‘One of the agents then asked a [police] sergeant to ‘wave a piece of paper’ in an apparent effort to dupe the resident into thinking that they indeed had a warrant.'”

Homeland Security Confiscates Panties For ‘Copyright Infringement’

“Homeland Security’s mission has transformed from fighting terrorists to stealing women’s underwear for supposed intellectual property violations.  What’s interesting is how since the department’s inception their goal was never to stop terrorism but to police the domestic population, be it through raiding toy stores for suspected copyright infringement one year after the department’s creation back in 2004, or panty raids as they just did in Kansas now ten years later.  When there is no actual terrorists to police with all the high-tech police state gear you spent billions of taxpayers’ dollars on, you have to use it somewhere.”

“NATO, which I believe should have been shut down after the Cold War ended, is also getting its own massively expensive upgrade. The Alliance commissioned a new headquarters building in Brussels, Belgium, in 2010, which is supposed to be completed in 2016. The building looks like a hideous claw, and the final cost – if it is ever finished – will be well over one billion dollars. That is more than twice what was originally budgeted. What a boondoggle! Is it any surprise that NATO bureaucrats and generals continuously try to terrify us with tales of the new Russian threat? They need to justify their expansion plans!  So who is the real enemy? The Russians?  No, the real enemy is the taxpayer.”

What I Learned About Life Interviewing 80 Highly Successful People

“If I wanted to talk about ‘Star Wars,’ I called the author of a dozen Star Wars novels.  If I wanted to talk about Twisted Sister, I called up the founder of the band. If I wanted to talk sex I called the women who ran the ‘Ask Women’ podcast.  I wanted to know at what point were they at their worst. And how they got better. Each person created a unique life. I wanted to know how they did it. I was insanely curious.  Here are the most important things I learned. I can’t specify which person I learned what from. It hurts my head when I think about it because many of the 80 said the exact same thing about how they ended up where they were.”
