Washington: Man wakes up to receive 16 bullets from police

“Dustin Theoharis suffered 16 gunshot wounds as police officers opened fire at him as soon as the man woke up and tried to get up from bed.  Having woken up, Dustin saw police officers in his room. The man reached for the bedside table for his wallet to show his ID to the officers, but the latter opened heavy fire at the man. Afterwards, the officers claimed that they assumed Dustin was trying to reach out for a weapon, Pravda.Ru says. The police authorities were trying to justify the actions of the police officers by the fact that their job was ‘tough.’  The man received a $5.5 million payout, but the officers who shot him were never even charged.”

US police shoot and kill 111 Americans in March 2015

“US law enforcement agencies get increasingly aggressive every year. In March 2015, the American police killed 111 people.  According to AlterNet, since 1900, the entire UK police have killed 52 people.  ‘Don’t bother adjusting for population differences, or poverty, or mental illness, or anything else. The sheer fact that American police kill TWICE as many people per month as police have killed in the modern history of the United Kingdom is sick, preposterous, and alarming,’ Shaun King, the author of the publication wrote.  The author recalls several incidents, when police officers shot and killed unarmed American citizens, both male and female.”

Police kill more Americans than terrorists

“More than 5,600 American citizens have been killed for the last 15 years by the U.S. police. Quite less people died under Islamist terrorists attacks mounted in the territory of the United States during this period.  A special interactive map of fatal encounters was created by Anand Katakam. It is to represent a so-called national database on killings committed by the police.  The guns remain the most widespread police tools, as the vast majority of the deaths are from gunshots. There are also cases of stab wounds, stun guns, asphyxiations, medical emergencies and vehicle crashes. Some citizens died because of ‘suicide by cop’, that is after baiting a police officer into using deadly force.”

The job of being a police officer has become safer too, as the number of police killed by gunfire plunged to 33 last year, down 50% from 2012, to its lowest level since, wait for it, 1887, a time when the population was 75% lower than it is today.  So why are we seeing an ever increasing militarization of policing across the country?”

GMO Apples And Potatoes Approved By FDA; Labeling Not Required

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved two varieties of genetically engineered apples and six varieties of genetically engineered potatoes for human consumption Friday. The apples and potatoes were approved as part of a voluntary consultation process in which the FDA reviewed information submitted by the companies about how the foods had been changed on a molecular level and how they compared nutritionally with conventional apples and potatoes. In February, the U.S. Department of Agriculture approved Artic apples for cultivation and sale.  Those apples are expected to become commercially available in 2017.”

43 scientific papers retracted amid wider fake peer-review scandal

“A major publisher of scholarly medical and science articles has retracted 43 papers because of ‘fabricated’ peer reviews amid signs of a broader fake peer review racket affecting many more publications.  The publisher is BioMed Central, based in the UK, which puts out 277 peer-reviewed journals. A partial list of the retracted articles suggests most of them were written by scholars at universities in China. Meanwhile, the Committee on Publication Ethics, a multidisciplinary group that includes more than 9,000 journal editors, issued a statement suggesting a much broader potential problem.  Those journals are now reviewing manuscripts to determine how many may need to be retracted.”

Federal Government Admits Marijuana Shrinks Serious Brain Tumors

“The National Institute on Drug Abuse, a research institution run by the federal government, has grudgingly admitted that marijuana is capable of killing certain cancer cells.  A publication from NIDA, revised as of April 2015, states that ‘recent animal studies have shown that marijuana can kill certain cancer cells and reduce the size of others. Evidence from one animal study suggests that extracts from whole-plant marijuana can shrink one of the most serious types of brain tumors. Research in mice showed that these extracts, when used with radiation, increased the cancer-killing effects of the radiation.'”

House Committee Expresses “No Confidence” in DEA Administrator

“Today, members of the House Oversight Committee have issued a statement of ‘No Confidence’ in Drug Enforcement Administrator Michele Leonhart. The unprecedented move by a group of over twenty bipartisan lawmakers comes a day after her shambolic performance in Congress during a hearing focused on DEA agents who paid for sex workers and sex parties using taxpayer dollars.  Leonhart was widely panned and her answers deemed inadequate during testimony on her agency’s handling of sexual harassment and misconduct allegations. The call to dismiss Leonhart comes against a backdrop of scandals and incompetence at the DEA.”

Police Deserve No Sympathy Until the Blue Line Breaks

All made the politically correct comments, but they still do not understand the problem. Consider Chief Flynn’s statement. his officers are ‘depressed’ because they’re ‘judged by the worst example.’ This is exactly how many citizens feel. Police officers routinely judge us ‘with the worst possible presumptions’ but then demand benefit of the doubt for their own actions.”

Credit agencies dropping claims that they are ‘independent’

“The world’s top credit agencies are dumping claims that their research is “independent” in a shift that follows accusations of bias and allegations that their faulty ratings helped trigger the worst financial crisis in living memory.  According to an academic paper from Harvard Business School, McGraw Hill’s Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s, the two largest ratings agencies, have all but culled claims about the independence of their research from the documents they must file with the US’s SEC. Trillions of dollars worth of debt are issued by companies, cities and countries looking to raise money each year. Between them S&P and Moody’s accounted for over 83% of the ratings issued.”
