Man arrested after filming fatal crash from inside car

“It’s not unlawful to film a crime scene with a mobile phone. And it’s not illegal to try to sell the footage of a heinous crime scene, which police suggest was Pelton’s motive. But it is illegal to trespass on a crime scene, the Lorain Police Department said. Detective Buddy Sivert said Pelton, who posted the footage to Facebook, was charged with vehicular trespassing.  ‘We searched to try to find anything to charge him with,’ he said.  Pelton was released after posting bond Wednesday and faces a maximum 30 days in jail and a $250 fine if convicted.  ‘I just wanted to educate people to slow down,’ Pelton told ABC 5 in Cleveland.”

Toyota Camry Tops Ford F-150 as the Most American Made Car

“Cars with at least 75 percent domestic content are becoming an endangered species, and for the first time in the American-Made Index’s nine-year history, the list has fewer than 10 cars.  The Toyota Camry took the top spot this year, as 2014’s top vehicle — the Ford F-150 — fell below 75 percent in domestic-parts content with its 2015 model-year redesign.  It’s not that automakers are slowing U.S. production. If anything, the opposite is true: Excluding heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles, automakers assemble 101 models in this country for the 2015 model year, from Chevrolet sedans to BMW SUVs. What is shrinking is the percent of overall domestic-parts content.”

Three electric vehicles have joined Europe’s biggest loser’s list

“It’s sad fact of buying a mass market car. Once you’ve driven it off the lot, depreciation begins—some faster than others.  In Europe, three electric vehicles have joined a less-than-desirable list: the worst first-year depreciators. The Renault Fluence Z. E., Citroen C-Zero, and Nissan Leaf E have all lost more than three-quarters of their value after covering 12,000 miles and a year of ownership, according to automotive intelligence firm Glass’s Information Services.  As Glass’s notes, these three EVs are among the least attractive on the market.”

Peugeot targets Iran to tap post-sanctions industrial recovery

PSA Peugeot Citroën is targeting 400,000 car sales in Iran and has already signed a distribution agreement to sell its luxury DS brand, as the French carmaker eyes an end to years of crippling western sanctions.  The company, which sold nearly half a million cars a year in Iran before sanctions forced it to pull out in 2012, is planning an aggressive re-entry and is in advanced talks with local groups such as Iran Khodro to conceive, produce and sell cars in Iran.  Peugeot is even looking to turn Iran into a production base, exporting cars to the rest of the Middle East and Africa. The group now wants 50:50 joint ventures and is willing to spend money to build new factories and new platforms.”

European Car Sales Jump As ECB Stimulus Takes Effect

“European car-sales growth accelerated to the fastest pace in 5 1/2 years in June.  The jump was the biggest since a 16 percent surge in December 2009, when governments in the region offered incentives on trade-ins of older cars to help the industry recover from the global recession.  The economy of the 19 countries using the euro is in its longest stretch of growth since the 2008 worldwide credit crunch, while unemployment in the U.K. is at close to a seven-year low. The European Central Bank’s monetary stimulus measures have helped economic revival in most euro-zone countries, partly offsetting the effects of the Greek sovereign-debt crisis.”

Wesley Clark Calls for Internment Camps for “Radicalized” Americans

“Retired general and former Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark on Friday called for World War II-style internment camps to be revived for ‘disloyal Americans.’ In an interview with MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts in the wake of the mass shooting in Chatanooga, Tennessee, Clark said that during World War II, ‘if someone supported Nazi Germany at the expense of the United States, we didn’t say that was freedom of speech, we put him in a camp, they were prisoners of war.’ The comments were shockingly out of character for Clark, who after serving as supreme allied commander of NATO made a name for himself in progressive political circles.”

Ron Paul: Iran Agreement Boosts Peace, Defeats Neocons

131203122616-ron-paul-bitcoin-620xa1

“Last week’s successfully concluded Iran agreement is one of the two most important achievements of an otherwise pretty dismal Obama presidency. Along with the ongoing process of normalizing relations with Cuba, this move shows that diplomacy can produce peaceful, positive changes. It also shows that sometimes taking a principled position means facing down overwhelming opposition from all sides and not backing down. The president should be commended for both of these achievements. The agreement has reduced the chance of a US attack on Iran, which is a great development. But the interventionists are organizing media and lobbying efforts to defeat the agreement.”

“You? A Tax Evader?”

“It’s no secret that governments worldwide are broke. One country after another is cutting social benefits and taking other measures to reduce government spending.  Take France, for instance. It’s under pressure from the EU to reduce its budget deficit to 3% of GDP. That’s the maximum permitted under the Maastricht Treaty, the agreement underpinning the EU. Currently, it’s at about 4%.  To comply with these rules, France cut family allowances and reduced grants to local authorities. It’s also started a renewed crackdown against tax evasion. It even laid off 7,500 soldiers. But that’s not all. France also recently expanded incentives for new residents.”

Greek Banks Reopen but Cash Limits Remain and Taxes Soar

“The cash-strapped nation got a short-term loan from European creditors to pay more than 6 billion euros ($6.5 billion) owed to the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank.  But for most Greeks, already buffeted by six years of recession, Monday was all about rising prices as tax hikes demanded by creditors took effect. There are few parts of the Greek economy left untouched by the steep increase in the sales tax from 13 to 23 percent. strict controls on cash flows, including a ban on check-cashing and payments abroad as well as limits on cash withdrawals, remained in effect.  New rules permit the withdrawal of up to 420 euros a week.”

Grooveshark co-founder Josh Greenberg found dead at 28

“Greenberg’s death comes several weeks after Grooveshark reached a final settlement with the record labels that sued it out of business over copyright violations. To avoid a damages trial that could’ve awarded those labels hundreds of millions of dollars, Grooveshark agreed to wipe away its entire existence, erasing all servers and giving ownership of its web domain, mobile applications, and all intellectual property to the labels.  At its peak, the service tallied between 35 million and 40 million users and employed 145 people.”
