Brave Cop Exposes How His Dept Killed Innocent Teen Brandon Ellingson

“Anthony Piercy, who as arresting officer had both moral and legal responsibility for Ellingson’s safety, incorrectly placed a life jacket on his prisoner and then drove his patrol boat away from the scene at a high rate of speed. Ellingson was thrown from the craft when it struck a sizeable wake.  Following the familiar full-court press to prevent officer accountability, the jury in a Coroner’s Inquest ruled Ellingson’s death to be accidental. It was subsequently revealed that Amanda Grellner, the prosecutor who declined to file charges against Piercy, had received a personal favor from the MHP three years earlier when the department declined to charge her then-18-year-old son with DUI.”

Man Charged with Murder After Cop Wrecks Trying to Give Him Ticket

“Like Brandon Ellingson, James Bava died at the hands of the Missouri Highway Patrol –but in Bava’s case, those hands were his own. Trooper Bava perished on August 28 when he crashed his patrol vehicle while giving pursuit to a speeding motorcyclist, later identified as twenty-year-old Serghei Pavel Comerzan. Owing largely, if not entirely, to the privileged status of the individual who died while pursuing him, Comerzan was also charged with second-degree murder (or, alternatively, first-degree manslaughter), despite the fact that Trooper Bava’s own actions were the proximate cause of his own death.”

Blackberry CEO: Apple has gone to a “dark place” with pro-privacy stance

“‘Our privacy commitment does not extend to criminals,’ Chen wrote in a blog post.  In the wake of the Edward Snowden revelations, Apple chief Tim Cook decided not to build backdoor access to locked devices running iOS 8 and iOS 9. Earlier versions, like iOS 7, can be accessed by Apple. The Justice Department has frowned on Cook’s actions.  Chen insinuated that if a Blackberry phone was at issue in the case Ars wrote about, he would comply with the search warrant.”

“Reuters quotes Li Shouwei, deputy head of the parliament’s criminal law division under the legislative affairs committee, as saying: ‘This rule accords with the actual work need of fighting terrorism and is basically the same as what other major countries in the world do.’  China’s pointed reference to what ‘other major countries in the world do’ underlines another reason why the current attacks on encryption by government officials in the West arenot just wrong, but extremely counterproductive. After all, the US and EU nations can’t criticise or challenge other countries for introducing intrusive surveillance laws that are almost indistinguishable from their own.”

San Francisco arrests under review after officers’ slur-filled texts revealed

“At least 3,000 arrests in the past decade are under review in San Francisco in a widening scandal over how police officers allegedly wrote racist and homophobic text messages.  San Francisco’s top prosecutor has impaneled a trio of retired, out-of-town judges to see if bias led to wrongful prosecutions or convictions in thousands of cases investigated by a total of 14 officers.  Federal prosecutors revealed text messages among police officers including references to cross burnings and a suggestion that it would be OK to shoot a black person because it’s ‘not against the law to put an animal down.’ The task force is also investigating faulty DNA testing and prize-fighting of inmates in the county jail.”

Cop who killed unarmed teen for selling marijuana not charged

“Seneca Police Lt. Mark Tiller shot and killed Zachary Hammond, 19, of Seneca, S.C., in an attempted marijuana bust July 26 in a fast-food parking lot. The officer said he shot Hammond because he feared the teenager was trying to run over him with his car. Eric Bland, lawyer for the Hammond family, said video from the officer’s dashboard camera clearly shows that Tiller was not in danger of being run over when he fired the fatal shot and said federal charges of civil-rights violations could still be forthcoming. Tori Morton of Pickens, Hammond’s date that night, was charged with simple possession of marijuana.”

Debian founder allegedly suicides following brutal altercation with SFPD

“Ian Murdock, 42, has died, according to Docker. He will be remembered as the founder of Debian and the creator of apt-get, and his death this week has touched the entire software community.  In the past, Murdock also worked at Sun Microsystems, where he created a packaging system for the Solaris operating system. He also served as the CTO of the Linux Foundation.  Murdock had tweeted distressing messages on Monday evening, alleging the San Francisco police department had assaulted him.  ‘The rest of my life is to fight against the police.. they are NOT friends, so don’t ever believe otherwise,’ he tweeted on Monday.”
