Police Officers Took 1,196 American Lives in 2015

“It is important to note that this number only includes the reported killings.  Most police misconduct goes entirely unreported.  For all anybody knows, the actual number could be anywhere between 2,000-3,000.  At least 27% of the people killed by police were suffering from mental illness, and instead of getting the help they needed, they were exterminated.  On the other hand, the number of police officers who were killed by gunfire has dropped dramatically — a nearly 15% reduction compared to previous years.  It is therefore puzzling as to why cops and their mainstream media lapdogs continue to insist that there is a ‘War on Cops’ in America.”

The Paranoid Style of American Policing

“When Bettie Jones’s brother displays zero confidence in an investigation into the killing of his sister, he is not being cynical. He is shrewdly observing a government that executed a young man and sought to hide that fact from citizens. He is intelligently assessing a local government which, for two decades, ran a torture ring. What we have made of our police departments America, what we have ordered them to do, is a direct challenge to any usable definition of democracy. A state that allows its agents to kill, to beat, to tase, without any real sanction, has ceased to govern and has commenced to simply rule.”

“Ferguson Effect”: Increased Police Lethality, More Prosecutorial Deference

“As 2015 expires, the year that supposedly found police under siege ends with fewer on-duty violent officer deaths than the previous year, a greater number of citizens killed by police during the same period, and expanded efforts on the part of prosecutors to preserve police impunity. Taken together, those trends constitute the real ‘Ferguson Effect.'”

Oklahoma Official Used Asset Forfeiture to Pay Back His Student Loans

“An assistant district attorney in the state of Oklahoma lived rent-free in a house confiscated by local law enforcement under the practice of asset forfeiture. His office paid the utility bills. He remained there for five years, despite a court order to sell the house at auction.  Another district attorney used $5,000 worth of confiscated funds to pay back his student loans.  These are just a few of the gems unearthed during a recent hearing on Oklahoma authorities’ liberal use of asset forfeiture to take property from suspected criminals and spend it on personal enrichment.  Unsurprisingly, cops are desperate to preserve the practice.”

Did you know police have their own Bill of Rights?

14 states have laws on the books guaranteeing a bill of rights for cops (and sometimes also correctional officers who are under investigation by their superiors. As many as 11 other states are considering similar legislation, and many of the rest have written essentially the same rights and privileges into their contracts with the police unions. A bill calling for adoption of a national LEOBoR is pending in Congress, and is re-introduced often.  LEOBoR is the original Bill of Rights with an upgrade, assuring police officers treatment that they themselves do not consistently offer to suspects they are questioning.”

The Logic of the Police State

“A closer look at law enforcement arguments against commonsense reforms like independently investigating police violence, demilitarizing police forces, or ending ‘for-profit policing’ reveals a striking disregard for concerns of just about any sort when it comes to brutality and abuse. What this ‘debate’ has revealed, in fact, is a mainstream policing mindset ready to manufacture fear without evidence and promote the belief that American civil rights and liberties are actually an impediment to public safety. In the end, such law enforcement arguments subvert the very idea that the police are there to serve the community and should be under civilian control.”

But For Video: Cop On Cop Action

“Now that the video has been revealed, a year after Noel Aguilar was murdered on the street because one deputy got shot by another deputy, and so they were entitled to kill one person who happened to have nothing to do with it, it turns out that every assumption the system force feeds the public was a lie.  That one cop shot another cop, so they both murdered a guy named Noel Aguilar, never makes its way into the official narrative, except when there’s video.  The only concern for Aguilar was to make sure he was smeared as thoroughly as his criminal history allowed.”

The Death of 6-Year-Old Jeremy Mardis and the Honesty of the Police

“Any time police shoot and kill a 6-year-old, there are bound to be tough questions. And officers in Louisiana had answers about the death of Jeremy Mardis on November 3.  Yet almost none of that turned out to be true.  The officers in Jeremy Mardis’s shooting were subject to multiple complaints about their fitness for duty. One was allegedly in a personal conflict with Chris Few. And police officials have now said that they were lying about almost every relevant point of the pursuit and shooting.”

Dad Breaks Down Over Having Called Chicago Cops Who Killed His Son

“Antonio LeGrier called the police on his son, Quintonio, for threatening him with a baseball bat. When officers arrived, they ‘accidentally‘ shot and killed Quintonio, 19, and the LeGriers’ downstairs neighbor, Bettie Jones, 55. ‘No one expected the Chicago police department to just start shooting into a doorway where a young man may or may not have had a weapon when the door opened,’ LeGrier said. ‘Maybe it was an inexperienced officer who wasn’t trained on how to respond to these situations. I’m not sure what it is. All I know is right now two innocent people are dead because an officer made a decision that was not the right one.'”

The Cop Shooting So Horrific It Cost Chicago $5 Million to Hide The Video

“Mayor Rahm Emanuel and officials both in city government and within the Chicago Police Department have said the footage should remain sealed from public view. As part of a $5 million settlement between the city and the McDonald family, a judge barred attorneys from releasing the video.  From the beginning, Chicago police have sought to conceal information about McDonald’s death—in at least one case by apparently violating not only IPRA procedures but the Constitution when they seized security footage from a nearby restaurant without a warrant. McDonald family attorneys learned that police had wiped 86 minutes of footage from that tape,”
