“43 states and the District of Columbia suspend driver’s licenses because of unpaid debt. Only four states require a determination of the person’s ability to pay. Some, such as Virginia, make the suspensions mandatory, while others, including the District and Maryland, allow for discretion, albeit automated systems make its use rare. Virtually all states that suspend licenses for unpaid debt do so indefinitely, with rules that prevent reinstatement until full payment is made.”

Milwaukee jail staff killed a prisoner by depriving him of water as punishment

“Thomas’ case wasn’t the only time an inmate was punished by being deprived of water. Prosecutors presented jurors with jail logs documenting two cases in which disobeying inmates had water to their cells turned off — both within a month of Thomas dying. One of the cases happened a week after Thomas’ death.”

Police Tackled, Arrested Homeowner Who Refused Warrantless Entry

“The Dantzlers refused to allow the police to enter and search their home and indicated that they should get a warrant if they wanted to do so. One officer then seized Huntly Dantzler, handcuffed him, pulled him away from the door and threw him to the ground. Alarmed by the treatment of her husband and the inherent coercion, Susan Dantzler allowed one of the officers to enter the house and look around. After searching the house and finding nothing, the officers left. Huntly Dantzler was compelled to seek medical care for deep gashes on wrists left by the handcuffs.”

Teacher Fired, Reported To Counter-Terror Unit For Expressing Christian Views

“A Christian teacher in Bristol was fired and reported as a ‘radicalisation threat’ after she answered questions from pupils about her beliefs, an employment tribunal has heard.  Svetlana Powell was dismissed from the T2 Apprenticeship Academy in Bristol in July 2016 after leaders at the government-funded college said students had been offended by comments the teacher made.”

Lewis for a New York Times article in January 2005.”

West Virginia officer fired after refusing to shoot man with unloaded gun

“Mader said his Marine Corps and police training taught him to assess a threat level. He said Williams was visibly upset but not aggressive or violent.  When the two other officers arrived, one of them fatally shot Williams in the head after he raised his gun. An investigation found the officer did nothing wrong.”

Let that sink in.  When Finicum got out of his vehicle with his hands up, within seconds you gathered around him and shot him in the back. Moments later you shot rounds of ammunition into Finicum’s truck with scared women inside screaming for help- trying to surrender. U.S., UK government websites infected with crypto-mining malware

“Thousands of websites, including ones run by U.S. and UK government agencies, were infected for several hours on Sunday with code that causes web browsers to secretly mine digital currencies, technology news site The Register reported.  The tainted version of Browsealoud caused inserted software for mining the digital currency Monero to run on computers that visited infected sites, generating money for the hackers behind the attack, The Register said.”
