Doug Casey on the Debasement of Money, Language and Banking

casey1202

“I actually just managed to put a little bit of money into a stock trading on the Mongolian stock exchange that is investing in North Korea that makes sense to me. There are always anomalies out there; there are always speculations. My cattle herd here in Argentina keeps growing, and cattle are a truly great investment now – especially here. Next week, I’m flying to Albania to scope out what might be a major oil deal. Perhaps a mania will develop in the companies that are legally growing marijuana in Canada, a space where I recently made an investment. I’m getting involved in a private deal, to export jade from Guatemala to China.”

The Battle for Self-Ownership in Medical Care

“We are working in systems where third parties call the game. This was initiated by Bismarck way back, we still have Bismarckian model which is overbearing in most of Europe. Bismarck is dead now and I think this model will probably die as well. It’s dead in Georgia, and it will die elsewhere. How can you reestablish the direct contract between patients and doctors? That’s one of the keys of achieving self-ownership for patients in so far as they can choose their doctor and also autonomy for doctors who can concentrate their work on their patients without third parties telling them what to do. That’s one way, and there’s several means of doing it.”

Dallas Buyer’s Club Illustrates How Regulations Kill

“Back in the mid-1980s, AIDS patients lived less than two years after being diagnosed. Using drugs available overseas, some of which are still not marketed in the US, Woodroof beats the odds.  While Woodroof was fighting the FDA, I was working at a major pharmaceutical firm. By the time that the FDA gave us permission to test our drugs in people, every AIDS patient in the country who wanted them had already tried them. The Buyers Clubs either obtained them overseas or hired black market chemists to make them. Much valuable information about how these drugs worked—or didn’t work—could have been obtained from these Clubs if their operations hadn’t been in legal limbo.”

One Cyber Brick at a Time

“I gingerly handed over my hard-earned money to a couple of spam scammers who quickly disappeared.  I also managed to lose two websites to guys who assured me that their companies were established concerns that had been in business since Marconi invented the radio.  It wasn’t until I settled down, rolled up my sleeves, connected with some legitimate people, and focused on growing my business that success started coming my way.  I discovered that not being on one of the earlier Internet trains didn’t matter.  It was an advantage, because the Internet is like any other technology in that, over time, it becomes easier and easier … and less and less expensive.”

The Top 6 Reasons Why Everyone Needs a Second Passport

“Doug Casey has said over and over that spreading your political risk beyond one jurisdiction is the single most important thing he can recommend today.  Obtaining a second passport and citizenship in another country is a critical part in heeding Doug’s advice.  This is because it’s a fundamental step towards minimizing the political risk of being subjected to the whims of any single government.  The political diversification benefits that come with obtaining a second passport are universal and prudent for anyone in the world to obtain… especially those under a desperate (fiscally or otherwise) government.  Here are the top six reasons why everyone needs a second passport.”

The Real Reasons Americans Give Up Their US Citizenship

“Do these folks sound like tax evaders? Well, they do to ‘homelanders’ and their congressional representatives.  Also, don’t forget that the United States is one of only a handful of countries that tax citizens or permanent residents wherever they reside. Expatriates don’t get a lot of sympathy on Capitol Hill – or on Main Street America. If you expatriate, you won’t bleed to death, and despite mainstream American attitudes, you probably won’t get burned at the stake. But there are significant consequences – even if the rationale upon which they are based is as misguided as assuming that the sun and stars revolve around the Earth.”

Bitcoin’s ‘Demise’ A Reminder Of How Not Free We Are

“I don’t think governments can stop the idea of cryptocurrency itself. All they are doing is forcing developers out there to create better, more paranoid coins—similar to how the recording industry’s vendetta against Napster didn’t stop music sharing, it enabled it to occur on a much wider scale (they stopped Napster, so the Internet went with Bittorrent).  And really, ‘The lady doth protest too much.’ If cryptocurrency is so untenable and dangerous, as governments maintain, let it collapse on its own lack of merit. Don’t suffocate it with inappropriate classification or authoritarian bans.”

The Disturbing Truth Behind Your Next Income Tax Return

20121129_JeffreyTuckeravatar1

“The least of the problems with income tax is that it takes your money. The really big problem is that the income tax takes your life. It gives the government direct access to the things you own and sets up the political-bureaucratic sector to be the final arbiter of what you can and cannot consider to be yours.  Illustrating this point is the bitter news that the IRS has considered it completely legal to demand access to your email archive whenever it wants. This news came about because of a Freedom of Information Act request filed by the American Civil Liberties Union.”

Aggressive Police Tactics Threaten Innocent Citizens

“The reason for the raid? Barbering without a license.  And if you think that’s insane, consider that U.S. SWAT teams have repeated this sort of outrage while raiding a DJ’s studio to enforce copyright law, a private home in search of stolen koi fish, a meeting of Buddhist monks suspected of overstaying their visas, an Amish dairy farm for selling unpasteurized milk, a private poker game … and an animal shelter in search of a baby deer (which they then killed).  Welcome to The Land of the Free, folks, where you are eight times more likely to be killed by a police officer than by a terrorist.  It’s starting to look like there is only one sure solution to this madness.”

Canola Oil: Good or Bad?

“Back in the day, an oil called rapeseed oil was often used for industrial purposes.  It was cheap to produce, but people couldn’t eat it because it contained some unfavorable substances.  A bunch of Canadian scientists wanted to turn rapeseed oil into an edible oil, so they used selective breeding techniques to ‘create’ seeds that contained less of these harmful, bitter substances.  This is how canola was born… but ‘Canola’ is a marketing term. It stands for Canadian Oil (some believe it stands for Canada Oil, Low Acid).  Today, about 90% of the world’s canola crop is genetically modified.  This short video shows how canola oil is made. I recommend you watch it.”
