Ignore Saudi and Israeli Goading for Muscular U.S. Mideast Policy

eland_ivan_100x1331

“Although the Sunni Arab bloc and Israel are unfriendly to each other, they both share an interest in weakening the Shi’ite Syria-Iran axis. And they both want the United States to do their dirty work for them. Pointless bombing, merely to weaken Syria or Iran for Saudi Arabia and Israel, would not serve U.S. national interests—let alone that the American people are exhausted with terrorism-inducing U.S. military entanglements in a Middle East that is in perpetual conflict.  U.S. military action against either Syria or Iran may be in the interest of Saudi Arabia and Israel, but it is not the interest of the United States or its people, who may be subjected to further blowback retaliatory acts of terrorism.”

Paul Craig Roberts: The Case of the Missing Recovery

withkitties_150_1202

“What the Treasury and Federal Reserve have done, with the complicity of the White House, Congress, economists, and the media, is to focus on rescuing a half dozen banks ‘too big to fail.’ The consequence of focusing economic policy on saving the banks is rigged financial markets and massive stock and bond market bubbles. To protect the dollar’s exchange value from quantitative easing, the price of gold has been forced down in the paper futures market, with the consequence that physical gold is shipped to Asia where it is unavailable as a refuge for Americans faced with currency depreciation. It remains to be seen whether the chickens can be kept from coming home to roost.”

Bill Bonner: Is This Capitalism’s Achilles’ Heel?

Bill-Bonner2

“The critics presume capitalism follows certain rules. People are said to be ‘rational actors.’ They are said to want to increase their wealth. They are said to always try to optimize their time and money.  If that were the definition of a real capitalist, we have never met one. Instead, the people we know function in a world of floating ambitions and ambiguous decision-making.  People have many different goals in life; making money is just one of them. One wishes to make a lot of money. Another is more concerned with his family. Another finds the pursuit of money vulgar.  Not knowing what people want, it is impossible to know whether they pursue their goals rationally or irrationally.”

Paul Craig Roberts: 2014 Will Bring More Social Collapse

withkitties_150_1202

“When I was five years old, I walked to the neighborhood school by myself. Today my mother would be arrested for child endangerment.  In America punishment falls more heavily on the innocent, the young, and the poor than it does on the banksters who are living on the Federal Reserve’s subsidy known as QE and who have escaped criminal liability for the fraudulent financial instruments that they sold to the world. Single mothers, depressed by the lack of commitment of the fathers of their children, are locked away for using drugs to block out their depression. Their children are seized by a Gestapo institution, Child Protective Services, and end up in foster care where many are abused.”

Ron Paul: Government Policies Hurt Low-Wage Workers

131203122616-ron-paul-bitcoin-620xa1

“Unskilled and inexperienced workers are the ones most often deprived of employment opportunities by increases in the minimum wage.  By increasing unemployment, government policies like minimum wage laws only worsen inequality. Those who are genuinely concerned about increasing the wellbeing of all Americans should support repeal of all laws, regulations and taxes that inhibit job creation and economic mobility. Congress should also end the most regressive of all taxes, the inflation tax, by ending the Federal Reserve.”

Why I’m Leaving

“My grandparents emigrated from Portugal to Mozambique during the 1940s and 50s in search of a better life. The massive and undeveloped colony seemed like the land of milk and honey for those willing to get their hands dirty. A few decades later my parents-to-be immigrated to South Africa as Mozambique headed towards what would become a 10-year war for independence. Then when I was just 4 years old they decided that a fascist state fully enveloped with the evils of apartheid was no place to raise a child. My mother was fortunate enough to get a work visa into the United States and that’s where we’ve been ever since.  Now the time has come for me to follow in my family’s footsteps.”

Jim Bovard: The Sordid History of IRS Political Abuse

“The IRS has a long history of trying to ruin the political careers of its critics. In 1925, Internal Revenue Commissioner David Blair personally delivered a demand for $10 million in back taxes to Michigan’s Republican Sen. James Couzens — who had launched an investigation of the Bureau of Internal Revenue — as he stepped out of the Senate chamber. Couzens fought the case, and eventually proved that he had actually overpaid his taxes by roughly $1 million. But the precedent of using threats to deflect oversight was firmly established.  President Franklin Roosevelt used the IRS to harass newspaper publishers, including William Randolph Hearst and Moses Annenberg.”

Bitcoin Takes on Gold

“While crypto-currencies remain insulated from central bank manipulation, governments have thus far been tolerant, perhaps because their capability to track transactions is more advanced than Bitcoin believers admit.  Nevertheless, the advent of crypto-currencies represents the increasing popular demand for a currency insulated from political debasement and bank profiteering. Crypto-currencies represent a legitimate attempt by private citizens to reassert their sovereignty over such government actions. I appreciate the effort, and I believe it holds much promise. But for now, I will stay with the traditional store of value, gold.”
