Criminal transmission of HIV in the United States – Wikipedia

“More than thirty of the fifty states in the U.S. have prosecuted HIV-positive individuals for exposing another person to HIV. Their laws criminalize different behaviors and assign different penalties. A person diagnosed with HIV who infects another while engaging in sexual intercourse is, in many jurisdictions, committing a crime. A person donating HIV-infected organs, tissues, and blood can be prosecuted for transmitting the virus. Spitting or transmitting HIV-infected bodily fluids is a criminal offense in some states, particularly if the target is a prison guard. Some states treat the transmission of HIV, depending upon a variety of factors, as a felony and others as a misdemeanor.”

Kathryn Johnston shooting – Wikipedia

“Kathryn Johnston was an elderly Atlanta, Georgia, woman who was killed by undercover police officers in her home where she had lived for 17 years. Three officers had entered her home in what was later described as a ‘botched’ drug raid. Officers cut off burglar bars and broke down her door using a no-knock warrant. One of the officers planted marijuana after the shooting. Later investigations found that the paperwork stating that drugs present at Johnston’s house, which had been the basis for the raid, had been falsified. The officers later admitted to having lied when they submitted cocaine as evidence claiming that they had bought it at Johnston’s house.”

Bitcoin: A Primer for Policymakers

“A new Mercatus Center at George Mason University study addresses many of the common misconceptions about Bitcoin and describes how the digital currency works. The study also analyzes current laws and regulations that may already cover digital currencies and warns against preemptively placing regulatory restrictions on Bitcoin that could stifle this new technology before it has a chance to grow. In addition, the paper gives policymakers several recommendations on how to treat Bitcoin going forward in a way that helps the free market and provides clarity for law enforcement.”

Questions and Answers About Cannabis – National Cancer Institute

“The use of Cannabis for medicinal purposes dates back at least 3,000 years. It came into use in Western medicine in the 19th century and was said to relieve pain, inflammation, spasms, and convulsions. Studies in mice and rats have shown that cannabinoids may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.”

“The 1990 Democratic Revolution in Mongolia was a democratic revolution that started with demonstrations and hunger strikes to overthrow the Mongolian People’s Republic and eventually moved towards the democratic present day Mongolia and the writing of the new constitution. It was spearheaded by mostly younger people demonstrating on Sükhbaatar Square in the capital Ulaanbaatar. It ended with the authoritarian government resigning without bloodshed. The Democratic Party stemming from the pro-democracy activists has been on the power of Mongolia’s presidency, parliament and government since 2012.”
