Fox News host demands escalation of nuclear hostilities with Russia over Snowden

“Fox News host Gregg Jarrett on Thursday suggested that President Barack Obama should pull out of nuclear treaties and send missiles to Europe after Russian President Vladimir Putin granted asylum to NSA leaker Edward Snowden. Earlier this year, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced that the U.S. was cancelling plans to put long-range missile defense interceptors in Poland. Moscow had refused to move forward with additional nuclear arms cuts unless the system was scrapped.  Three other phases, including short-range missiles in Poland, were expected to be rolled out as planned.”

Shield Your Nest Egg from Its Two Biggest Threats

“For a government to siphon off wealth efficiently, it must know where the wealth is, set up ways to take it, and have a strong enough police force to make sure citizens comply. The intention is to make it easier to pay up than go to jail. Even people with modest nest eggs are constantly looking for ways to legally protect their wealth. Lawyers love it, since it means citizens need a variety of trusts and complicated legal avenues for minimizing taxes. That’s part of the game. As governments press on, the stakes escalate, taxes increase, and we have to escalate our efforts to protect ourselves.”

Pepe Escobar: Al-Qaeda to the rescue

“Doctor Evil and the Orwellian/Panopticon complex are on the same side – and that explains why he’ll be allowed to be a motor mouth fatwa machine for as long as he wants, and won’t be nabbed like some patsy in the underwear bomber mould. The complex is back in offense. Reform the NSA? Interfere with our metadata? What for? We have just alerted the US government to ‘pre-9/11’ levels of terrorist chatter!  AQAP might well decide not to participate in this worldwide ‘pre-9/11’ script. Real jihadis, after all, are not foolish enough to be caught by XKeystroke.”

Large Depositors in Cyprus Lose 47.5% of Their Deposits. Good!

“If the principle of ‘depositor beware’ were allowed to spread across the world and down to every dollar or euro deposited, the world would then have something resembling a free market in banking. Every banker would know that a bank run on his bank could wipe it out at any time. Bankers would become far more careful with depositors’ money. Banking would become less inflationary. The world would be better off. The bankers in the rest of Europe are terrified that the ‘Cyprus solution’ will spread to their nations. That would place final authority in the hands of depositors. This thought terrifies bankers.”

Overpicking threatens Greek herbs

“Forestry officials on the Greek island of Crete have slapped a five-year ban on the collection of a variety of wild herbs snipped to near-extinction, the state-run ANA agency said. The forestry department of Hania, one of the island’s main towns, placed restrictions on picking sage, marjoram, oregano and sideritis, better known as Cretan mountain tea, in protected areas. Special permission is required for commercial collection, and an allowance of up to 500 grammes is made ‘for personal use’. And Cretan dittany, a therapeutic plant prized since antiquity that is exclusive to the island, is off the table altogether.”

US preparing for military action in Syria, top US general says

“Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the Obama administration is deliberating whether or not it should use the brute of the US military in Syria during a Thursday morning Senate hearing. Gen. Dempsey said the administration was considering using ‘kinetic strikes’ in Syria and said ‘issue is under deliberation inside of our agencies of government.’ US officials have previously said Washington is considering implementing a no-fly zone above Syria, and last month the Pentagon left a fleet of F-16 fighter planes and its Patriot anti-missile system on the border of neighboring Jordan.”

Obama orders federal agencies to cede airwaves to private telecom providers

“US President Barack Obama moved Friday to free up more broadcast spectrum used by federal agencies to help meet the surging demand from smartphones and other mobile devices.  A White House order calls for a federal team to evaluate ways for agencies to give up or share spectrum for mobile broadband operators. Mignon Clyburn, acting chair of the Federal Communications Commission, said the new effort ‘will enable us to meet the challenge of unleashing spectrum for commercial use while also ensuring more efficient use of spectrum.'”
