“Ron Paul tried to warn again, and again, and again, prior to 9/11, that America’s foreign policy could someday come back to bite us here at home.  After that tragic day did sadly occur, the Neocons and the U.S. government received (as Dick Cheney said) an amazing amount of trust and belief in what they could do. Now, here we are just 12 years later. Bloomberg is out today with a national poll that says 68% say that the government is on the wrong track. A few days ago, Gallup released a poll showing that American belief that government is too powerful is at record levels.  But this is 12 years later….Dick & The Gang took the huge opening and crammed in as much as they possibly could.”

NSA chief defends his agency’s ‘noble mission’ to defend the U.S.

“The head of the National Security Agency Wednesday defended US surveillance programs as part of a ‘noble’ mission to protect the nation and said reports on them were ‘sensationalized.’  ‘The future of this country depends on our ability to defend against cyber attacks and terrorist threats, and we need the tools to do it,’ said General Keith Alexander, chief of the NSA. The agency heads the PRISM program and other vast data collection efforts revealed in recent months.  Alexander appealed to the public to support the surveillance effort, which is coming under scrutiny in Congress, and argued that the facts about the programs have been distorted.”

When he suffered a flat tire last January, police officers who arrived on the scene accused him of being a terrorist, made derogatory remarks about his religion, forced him to circle his truck with his hands on his head while the vehicle was searched, and then arrested him for supposedly refusing to obey an officer.”

“When your government starts arbitrarily seizing skyscrapers, the time to start thinking about and devising an internationalization strategy was yesterday.  If you have not already started, I’d suggest that it is high time to get going. This goes double for libertarians and anyone else who could one day become the government’s next enemy du jour.  All the government has to do is say the magic T-word, and poof: your rights, your assets, and even your life can be taken from you in an instant, without due process, and the vast majority of people will approve of it.”

French mother jailed for sending son to school in ‘I am a bomb’ shirt

“A French mother who sent her three-year-old son to school in a T-shirt reading ‘I am a bomb’ and ‘Jihad, born on September 11’ was given a suspended prison term Friday for defending crime.  Bouchra Bagour said she had simply wanted to mark the birthday of her son — who is named Jihad and was born on September 11 — and had not intended any connection with the 9/11 attacks in the United States in 2001.  On Friday, an appeal court in the southern city of Nimes fined Bagour 2,000 euros ($2,700) and giving her a suspended one-month jail term.  Her brother Zeyad, who gave his nephew the T-shirt, was fined 4,000 euros and given a two-month suspended prison sentence.”

FBI calls half of populace with 9/11 doubts potential terrorists

“A newly released national poll shows that 48 percent of Americans either have some doubts about the official account of 9/11, or do not believe it at all.The FBI circular entitled ‘Potential Indicators of Terrorist Activities Related to Sleepers’ says that people who should be ‘considered suspicious’ of possible involvement in ‘terrorist activity’ include those who hold the ‘attitude’ described as ‘Conspiracy theories about Westerners.’ The circular continues: ‘e.g. (sic) the CIA arranged for 9/11 to legitimize the invasion of foreign lands.’  Most recently, former Fox News anchorman Ben Swann has questioned the official 9/11 story.”

FBI a ‘secret domestic intelligence agency,’ ACLU says

“In the wake of the National Security Agency spying scandal, the American Civil Liberties Union shifted attention Tuesday to the FBI with a report that described the bureau as ‘a secret domestic intelligence agency.’  The report says that changes in law and policy since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks have allowed the FBI to expand its intelligence-gathering and investigative authorities, infringe on Americans’ privacy and evade constitutional oversight.  Developing technologies have enabled the FBI to collect and analyze vast amounts of information about countless Americans without any suspicion of wrongdoing, the report says.”

The Bush administration did not acknowledge the implementation of the COG plan until March 1, 2002.  On July 18, 2007, Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR), a member of the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security, requested the classified and more detailed version of the government’s continuity of government plan in a letter signed by him and the chairperson of the House Homeland Committee, which is supposed to have access to confidential government information. The president refused to provide the information.”

Obama quietly extends post-9/11 state of national emergency

“Twelve years after the worst terrorist attack in American history, President Obama yet again extended his predecessor’s Declaration of National Emergency for another year. The declaration, which was originally put into place on September 14, 2001, was renewed on Tuesday.  Shortly after he renewed the declaration of a national emergency, President Obama obliquely hinted at the gradual accumulation of executive power in his speech on the Syria crisis. The past decade, he said, ‘put more and more war-making power in the hands of the president.'”
