Western Union Says Bitcoin Not Ready For Primetime

“A slide from Emerging Risk of Digital Currency presentation: ‘Worldwide use of bitcoin is growing, but there is not sufficient use and liquidity yet for massive adoption. Also, consumer interfaces to bitcoin are not sufficiently mature yet: ease of use, clarity of transactions, taxation issues, etc.  And…many regulatory issues are yet to be adequately addressed.’  It is also explicitly stated in one of the slides that: ‘Western Union does not have commercial relationships with Digital Currency companies or providers who buy, sell or trade in digital currencies and will also prohibit consumers from using Western Union services if it is determined transactions are associated with E-Currency.'”

Gallup Poll Finds 58% of Americans Support Legalizing Marijuana

“According to a new Gallup poll, 58 percent of Americans support legalizing marijuana—the largest percentage ever in that survey. ‘Success at the ballot box in the past year in Colorado and Washington may have increased Americans’ tolerance for marijuana legalization,’ Gallup says. ‘Support for legalization has jumped 10 percentage points since last November and the legal momentum shows no sign of abating.’  Gallup cites personal experience with marijuana as a possible factor in rising support for legalization, noting that ‘a sizable percentage of Americans (38%) this year admitted to having tried the drug.'”

Drivers would rather buy a self-driving car from Google than Ford

“Research has found that drivers would rather buy a self-driving car from Google than from a carmaker like Ford.  The KPMG study ‘Self Driving Cars: Are We Ready?’ was based on a combination of surveys and collated ‘web chatter’ and showed that Google was the brand most associated with autonomous motoring, followed by Nissan, after the latter firm’s pledge to produce a self-driving vehicle by 2020.  What will have been particularly alarming for vehicle manufacturers is that the KPMG study showed a distinct bias against American carmakers over Japanese ones, despite the respondents being 100 percent American.”

Enormous expansions of student debt are required to keep the current system of higher education afloat. This chart shows the insane trajectory of Federal student debt.  But unaffordability is only one reason why the present system of higher education is unsustainable.  Despite the good intentions and hard work of individuals, these systems are broken.  Due to their size and structure, large systems such as national defense, healthcare and education limit the impact of individual initiative.”

Even the post-Jobs Apple can’t stem the tide; it’s pretty close to the 10% niche market share I predicted back in 2009 already, with no sign that trend will or can be reversed.”
