Is the War on Drugs Over?

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“There’s an international powwow scheduled for 2016, one that was moved up from 2021. And every day more articles and editorials appear that argue not just for the full legalization of pot but of illicit drugs in general. The best guess is that the power elite sees drug legalization as a global solution to a problem that knows no borders. One can make an argument that the ‘war on drugs’ may have been a kind of red herring designed to lead to the ‘directed history’ of an international solution. Of course, it is widely acknowledged that the ‘war on drugs’ has been a failure – but who would ever have thought it was going to be a success in the first place except for certain law enforcement types?”

Colorado’s neighboring sheriffs lamenting their own marijuana arrests?

“Sheriff John Jenson watched the 2012 election returns crawling across his TV screen in this rural area just over the Colorado border. Tuned to a Denver news station, he soon realized Colorado voters were about to legalize recreational marijuana.  That’s when he turned to his wife and started to swear.  ‘The drug war in this country used to be along the U.S.-Mexican border. Now it’s eight miles away.’  Law enforcement officers in the smaller, often isolated counties in states ringing Colorado say their departments shudder under the weight of Colorado pot flowing illegally across the border. Drug arrests are rising, straining already strapped budgets in places where marijuana remains illegal.”

Where the World’s Unsold Cars Go To Die

“Houston…We have a problem!…Nobody is buying brand new cars anymore!  Well they are, but not on the scale they once were.  Millions of brand new unsold cars are just sitting redundant on runways and car parks around the world.  There, they stay, slowly deteriorating without being maintained.  Below is an image of a massive car park at Swindon, United Kingdom, with thousands upon thousands of unsold cars just sitting there with not a buyer in sight. The car manufacturers have to buy more and more land just to park their cars as they perpetually roll off the production line.  There is proof that the worlds recession is still biting and wont let go.”

EBay, Ellison Embrace Microgrids to Peril of Utilities

“Microgrids are emerging as a credible threat to the dominance of America’s 100-year-old-plus utility monopoly. The systems use computer software and remote measuring devices to control energy sources such as rooftop solar panels and natural gas-fueled power generators. They allow a home or business owner, a college systems engineer or a farmer on a mountainside to generate, distribute and regulate their locally produced power with an ease and sophistication that only utilities had a few years ago.  In the developing world, they may leapfrog the need for conventional utilities — the same way mobile phones leapfrogged the need for landlines.”

Marijuana: What’s Driving This Highly Profitable Trend

Anthony-Wile1

“The primary reason may have more to do in this case with the Internet itself. See, prior to the early 2000s support for decriminalization or legalization of marijuana was fairly stagnant. However, since that time, as the growth of Internet users has skyrocketed so too has the support to end marijuana’s prohibition. The process is something we refer to by the phrase we coined, the Internet Reformation. And it is affecting many areas of our lives. It is the reason why gold and silver – traditional money metals – have shot up. The same dynamics are at play here as well. Lies and deceit are much more difficult to spread and maintain in an era of transparency and an ever conversant society.”

Marxist Publishing House Asserts Copyright Against Free Websites

portallogo3

“Lawrence & Wishart, a profit-seeking leftist publisher of the collected works of Marx and Engels, is threatening legal action against Marxists.org, a website run by a remnant of the last remaining English-speaking Marxists.  Marxists.org posts English-language translations of the works of Marx, Engels, Lenin and other bourgeois members of the Inevitable Wave of the Future. These are free. That’s the problem. Lawrence & Wishart find it hard to compete against ‘free.’  So, it’s hard times in Commieland. The realities of free publishing online are these: a copyright-holding, profit-seeking firm is trying to make a few bucks by selling the Word as Revealed.”

U.S. Fed’s Kocherlakota says interested in bitcoin

“A top U.S. Federal Reserve official said on Tuesday he is interested in the fast-emerging bitcoin, although he scoffed at the idea that the virtual currency could replace the dollar.  Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Narayana Kocherlakota, speaking at a town hall at North Dakota State University, said he is interested in bitcoin as a technology, not as a currency.  He speculated that bitcoin could make payments among individuals faster. ‘That’s where I think the interest of it is, myself, as opposed to a new currency that’s going to drive the U.S. dollar out of circulation.'”

U.S. Attorney General Warns of Criminal Appeal of Bitcoin

“U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder told a congressional panel Tuesday that bitcoin and other virtual currencies raise new risks for money laundering and other illegal activity.  ‘More than ever before, the department’s law-enforcement work today must contend with new and emerging technology, including virtual currencies such as bitcoin,’ the attorney general said at a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee. ‘Virtual currencies can pose challenges for law enforcement given the appeal they have among those seeking to conceal illegal activity.’  In his remarks to Congress, Mr. Holder said federal prosecutors are working with financial regulators to understand the changing technology of money.”

Federal Bank VP: Bitcoin Threat Means Banks Must ‘Adapt or Die’

“On 31st March, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis – one of the 12 Federal Reserve banks – held a talk on bitcoin from a banking and economic viewpoint.  The session, entitled ‘Bitcoin and Beyond: The Possibilities and the Pitfalls of Virtual Currencies’, was presented by economist David Andolfatto, who is Vice President at the bank and a professor at Simon Fraser University.  Andolfatto is sure that, ultimately, new systems will upend the monetary hierarchy of today – eventually forcing substantial changes within the banking and payments industry.”
