Blockchain’s SharedCoin Users Can Be Identified, Says Security Expert

“Bitcoin users in need of serious transaction privacy should avoid popular services like Blockchain’s SharedCoin and other CoinJoin implementations, according to a well-known security expert.  Consultant Kristov Atlas, author of the book Anonymous Bitcoin, published a security advisory today saying weaknesses in SharedCoin offered privacy only from ‘unskilled examiners of the bitcoin blockchain’ – and even then, only until more sophisticated analysis tools were made user-friendly enough for the average user to deploy.  Atlas recommended anyone using SharedCoin set the number of cycles to the maximum 10, while remembering that even this did not guarantee 100% privacy.”

Robocoin 2.0 Arrives With Bank-Like Features and New Hardware

“The company’s ATMs accept and dispense 12 national currencies worldwide and can now be used to send money to anyone using only their phone number or email address, even if they haven’t signed up for a Robocoin account. Recipients need merely to visit the local ‘branch’ to pick up their cash.  With traditional remittance providers currently reaping vast profits in transfer fees – estimated at around $500bn a year – such a service could see significant savings for workers sending money back home to families.  ‘Our goal is to make storing and sending money faster, friendlier, cheaper and easier than any other company in the world,’ said Jordan Kelley, Robocoin’s CEO.”

Facebook Approves Dogecoin Tipping App

“Facebook has approved a cryptocurrency tipping app for the first time, and it’s surprisingly not Bitcoin’s. On June 5, 2014, Alejandro Caballero, developer of The Doge Tipping App posted an excited announcement on Reddit’s Dogecoin section. Facebook approves The Doge Tipping App, and their new Multicoin Tipping App followed in its place.  It seems like Facebook is allowing the use of the tipping app and possibly changing their stance on digital currency.  The Multicoin Tipping App supports Dogecoin, Digibytes, Einsteinium, FedoraCoin, Mintcoin, Reddcoin, Quark, Worldcoin, Vertcoin, Karmacoin, Earthcoin, TrollCoin, HTMLCoin, and Donationcoin.”

Expedia Starts Accepting Bitcoin for Hotel Bookings

Expedia, the big online travel site, announced on Wednesday it will begin accepting bitcoin for hotel bookings through its website, becoming the first major travel-agency to take the digital currency. If the reception is good, the company said it expects to bring bitcoin to its other service lines as well.  Expedia, which is using Coinbase for bitcoin processing, won’t hold the digital currency it receives.  More than 60,000 retailers now accept Bitcoin world-wide, and it is attracting more venture-capital funding, which is running at a pace 30% higher than last year. Still the price continues to wildly fluctuate, but it remains well above the price it fetched at the beginning of 2013.”

Bitcoins to Survive Lull, Shake Industries, Wedbush Says

“Bitcoins, the virtual currency that fell by more than half after surging past $1,100 last year, are probably one to three years away from broader adoption that will challenge industries, Wedbush Securities Inc. analysts wrote.  Venture-capital investments in bitcoin businesses have doubled in less than three months, and programmers are bolstering security, the analysts wrote. As bitcoins catch on, they will cut into more than $300 billion in revenue generated by global payments and challenge industries that account for about 20 percent of U.S. gross domestic product, the analysts said.”

Dish Network Says It Will Accept Bitcoin

“Most of Dish Network’s 14 million subscribers are probably not Bitcoin users. But that will not stop the company from accepting payments in the virtual currency later this year.  Dish announced on Thursday that customers would be able to make manual payments in Bitcoin beginning in the third quarter. And while Dish may not be the first company to accept Bitcoin, it claims to be the largest — though the appeal of the payment option is still unclear. Retailers like Overstock.com and Virgin America already accept virtual currency, helped by new services that aim to make digital money easier to use.”

Capital Controls Rolling Into High Gear Under FATCA

berwick1

“It isn’t just affecting the most financially restricted people on Earth: US citizens… it is affecting everyone.  Take myself, for example.  I operate numerous businesses worldwide.  I am a Canadian citizen as well as the citizen of a Caribbean country and our business operations are also operated out of a non-tax jurisdiction in the Caribbean.  On top of that we hold no bank accounts, whatsoever, in the US… instead, we have bank accounts all over the world.  Yet, in the last two months we have had our accounts or transactions frozen, denied or questioned in different jurisdictions at least ten times.  And we have had countless other problems over the last two years.”
