Teen kills Alaska reality TV cops arresting his dad for revoked license

“A teenager gunned down two state troopers Thursday in a tiny, remote Alaskan town as the officers attempted to arrest the man’s father, authorities said.  Nathaniel Lee Kangas, 19, fatally shot the troopers [after they] flew in to Tanana, a town of some 250 people, to follow up on a report that a relative of Kangas had wielded a shotgun Wednesday in a dispute with a town safety officer.  Nathanial Kangas was apprehended immediately and tentatively charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of third-degree assault.  Arvin Kangas fled the murder scene. He was arrested hours later and charged on a warrant with fourth-degree assault and driving with a revoked license.”

Cop who randomly slammed woman to the ground receives threats

“The Tucson police officer who was caught on video brutally pummeling a female student as she walked innocuously near the campus of the University of Arizona has been identified as Joel Mann, according to local ABC affiliate KGUN.  Mann, a sergeant with 18 years of experience, was one of a legion of officers deployed in full, pseudo-military riot gear. He wore a helmet and face shield.  In the video, Mann comes out of absolutely nowhere and violently pushes woman over a metal frame. She is smashed head over heels to the ground.  The woman had neither a helmet nor a face shield. She was wearing shorts.”

Bitcoiners Destroy iPhones After Apple Blacklists Blockchain

“Infuriated by Apple’s sudden move to ban bitcoin wallet provider Blockchain from its App stores on Wednesday, the bitcoin community flocked to reddit on 6th February in a spirited and controversial showing of support for the virtual currency.  Reddit posts abounded decrying Apple’s move as an anti-competitive maneuver that positions the Cupertino company against innovation and its core values.  There may be no more dedicated bitcoin supporter than Ryan of the YouTube video series Ryan’s Range Report, a vlogger and long-range shooting devotee who found a rare combination of his passions when he blasted his iPhone 4S to pieces to voice his displeasure with Apple’s decision.”

Blackwater Founder Erik Prince: War on Terror Has Become Too Big

“Erik Prince is not the kind of man one expects to make the case for slashing U.S. intelligence and military budgets.  ‘America is way too quick to trade freedom for the illusion of security,’ he told The Daily Beast. ‘Whether it’s allowing the NSA to go way too far in what it intercepts of our personal data, to our government monitoring of everything domestically and spending way more than we should. I don’t know if I want to live in a country where lone wolf and random terror attacks are impossible ‘cause that country would look more like North Korea than America.’  He said he will never work for the U.S. government again.”

Kiev Riots at Fever Pitch: The Fiery Scene in 30 Photos

“Riots in Kiev, Ukraine, hit an all-time high this week after the nation’s parliament passed laws to crack down on mass demonstrations. Opposition leaders called the move ‘a constitutional coup d’état.’  Protesters swarmed police, throwing stones and Molotov cocktails. In return, police fired rubber bullets and flash grenades. At time of writing, the violence hadn’t died down. Here are images from the thick of it.”

When Killer Cops Get a Pass, There Are Consequences

C4SSLogo22

“There is no doubt whatsoever, let alone any ‘reasonable’ doubt, that Ramos and Cicinelli brutally murdered an innocent victim. They tased Kelly Thomas five times, then brutally beat him, on camera, as he begged for his life. Thomas arrived at the hospital in a coma and died five days later of his injuries.  An Orange County, California jury’s acquittal of these two clearly and irrefutably guilty murderers, for no better reason than that they were wearing uniforms and carrying badges when they committed their crime, is troubling not only in and of itself, but for its likely future consequences.”

Chinese Bitcoin crackdown sparks revenge cyber-attack

“China’s central bank is thought to have been targeted in a revenge cyber-attack by investors infuriated at government attempts to destroy the local Bitcoin market.  As the yuan-denominated value of Bitcoins collapsed today, the website and official, Twitter-style weibo account of the People’s Bank of China suffered a series of crashes believed to have been caused by hackers.  Although the attacks were not claimed by any group, they followed a decision by Beijing earlier this week that will effectively shut down Bitcoin trading on China’s online exchanges. Bitcoins have proved exceptionally popular in China.”

Obama visits family of slain TSA officer

“President Barack Obama visited Monday with the family of TSA officer Gerardo Hernandez, who was killed at Los Angeles International Airport earlier this month.  The President also met with Tony Grigsby and James Speer — two other TSA officers who were wounded in the November 1 shooting incident.  A gunman stormed a terminal at the airport on November 1, killing Hernandez and injuring several others.  Hernandez is the first TSA officer to die in the line of duty.  Officers shot suspect Paul Ciancia multiple times during the assault.  He is in the custody of U.S. marshals, charged with the murder of a federal officer and commission of violence at an international airport.”

Google’s Schmidt Sees Encryption Killing Censorship

“Protecting Internet traffic with hard-to-crack code may prevent governments from censoring their populations’ communications within a decade, Google Inc. (GOOG) Chairman Eric Schmidt said.  Schmidt described the coming of a ‘network age’ in which Internet users communicate and organize socially through private channels shielded by encryption, which scrambles data with a mathematical formula that can be decoded only with a special digital key.  ‘We can end government censorship in a decade,’ Schmidt said during a speech in Washington. ‘The solution to government surveillance is to encrypt everything.'”

Meet The ‘Assassination Market’ Creator Who’s Crowdfunding Murder

“According to Assassination Market’s rules, if someone on its hit list is killed–and yes, Sanjuro hopes that many targets will be–any hitman who can prove he or she was responsible receives the collected funds.  For now, the site’s rewards are small but not insignificant. In the four months that Assassination Market has been online, six targets have been submitted by users, and bounties have been collected ranging from ten bitcoins for the murder of NSA director Keith Alexander and 40 bitcoins for the assassination of President Barack Obama to 124.14 bitcoins–the largest current bounty on the site–targeting Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve.”
