IMF’s World Tax Is a Puzzling Ploy

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“It seems clear for some reason that the IMF wants to advance the case for a global tax, though why it would want to adopt such a controversial proposal at this time is unclear. Perhaps the proposal is simply in line with other tax policies now being implemented. The most prominent one comes from the US government, which intends to tax expatriated residents via their banking connections.  The rollout of this policy is taking place this year but is also receiving a lot of pushback.  It could be that the IMF tax proposal is a way to implement further globalist tax strategies that can operate in conjunction with US efforts. There is no evidence that such a tax will solve the problems it is supposed to address.”

Cue the Black Swan

“The primary subject of Law No. 120 of 2013 had nothing to do with income taxes, but two articles had been inserted into it to amend the tax code.  The meaning was clear: Those who pay taxes in Panama must in the future, pay based on their worldwide income instead of just their Panamanian-sourced income.  This law was passed in darkness. There had been no public debate, yet it was signed into law by President Ricardo Martinelli on 30th December.  The episode in Panama is a bellwether.  Increasingly, we shall see governments passing legislation, issuing edicts, and taking action unannounced, as they seek to take a last squeeze of the lemon, prior to the collapse.”

Edward Snowden: Dialectic Piñata

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“Of course, Snowden’s charges have made members of the US – and Western – Intel community uncomfortable. But this is a small price to pay for months of media. On the one hand, Western Intel agencies have now been ‘outed’ along with their capabilities. On the other, a ‘dialogue’ is proceeding with the aim of rationalizing what has been accomplished and fitting it into a larger structure of ‘law and order.’ The idea is to legalize what’s been accomplished. The end result is that people are to be further terrorized when it comes to their private lives and that they are not to have any legal recourse. Additionally, Snowden himself is to be demonized.”

Connecticut Gun Owners Stand In Long Lines to Register Firearms

“Peaceful Connecticut citizens are standing in long lines to register ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds and longarms that the state considers ‘assault rifles.’  ‘The law I don’t think is going to stop any crimes,’ New London resident Rob Townsend said. ‘How many criminals do you think are in line right now to register their weapons?'”

Obama Faces a Bigger Ticking Time Bomb than Obamacare Itself

“One admirable goal as expressed by President Obama as he signed Dodd-Frank into law was ‘to put a stop to taxpayer bailouts once and for all.’ But, it is not the anti-too-big-to-fail elixir Americans were promised. Quite the opposite—it has further enshrined too-big-to-fail.  The criteria for designating non-bank financial institutions ‘systemically important’ to the financial system are—in characteristic Dodd-Frank style—imprecise.  Having developed a taste for insurance companies, FSOC designated Prudential Financial as systemic in September. It is openly eyeing MetLife as the next member of this exclusive club.”

Thailand extends security law in response to mass opposition protests

“A senior official in Thailand says a special security law has been extended for two more months to cope with mass opposition protests aimed at overthrowing Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.  The protests – aimed at curbing the political influence of Yingluck’s family – have left five people dead and more than 200 wounded in street violence, although tensions have abated recently.  The special law, known as the Internal Security Act, was widened a month ago to cover the whole of Bangkok and nearby areas. It gives the police additional powers to block routes, ban gatherings, carry out searches and impose a curfew, although not all the measures have been used.”

Canada Tried Registering Long Guns — And Gave Up

“Universal registration has been tried in several countries, most recently in Canada. The program turned out to be far more expensive than expected and didn’t have any discernable impact on crime, perhaps because long guns are used so rarely by criminals in the first place.  There was also the question of how registering guns was supposed to reduce crime and suicide in the first place. From 1997 to 2005, only 13% of the guns used in homicides were registered. Police studies in Canada estimated that 2-16% of guns used in crimes were stolen from legal owners and thus potentially in the registry. The bulk of the guns, Canadian officials concluded, were unregistered weapons imported illegally.”

Gun Shoppers Stock Up Before California Long Gun Registry Begins

“A new gun law coming in 2014 has gun owners stocking up on long guns before a new registry begins.  Even though the law is at least temporarily boosting his bottom line, Just Guns owner John Deaser isn’t a fan. He says requiring people to register their rifles and shotguns is an unnecessary invasion of privacy.  In the last week of 2013, he says sales of long guns are up 30 to 50 percent.  The registry goes into effect on Jan. 1, and would require long gun owners to register their weapons like handgun owners already do. It would track the make, model and serial number of the gun, as well as the person who owns it.”

Reuters Makes the Rational Case for a Surveillance State

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“The dialogue that Snowden has started can now be used to create a dialectic that will result in the rationalization of mass spying. Gradually, the idea that there is no privacy left – if Anglosphere elites have their way – is going to be enshrined into law. This will take a number of years. In the meantime … We will be bombarded over the next few years with constant reminders of how efficient government Intel is at spying and how much they know. This is actually a further meme aimed at terrorizing people who want to resist the encroaching Leviathan.  This Reuters article advances both these points in an almost mechanical way.”

Get Ready for Confiscation

“Once it has sunk in that such a move is perfectly acceptable in Europe, the US will declare its own bail-in policy.  Those who still cling to some hope that there may be some good news here, may say, ‘Well, at least if I have less than €100,000 on deposit, I can still call that my own.’  These folks will be the same ones who are relieved that they are likely to be left out of a ‘one-time’ wealth tax that is currently being floated as another solution to the exorbitant operating costs of governments.  However, any government that steals your money once is likely to have another go at a later date. And another and another.  Once they are accepted at all—for any reason—governments tend to repeat them.”
