(For now, it’s just being released for iPhones and iPads, though Android versions should come soon.) Kim Dotcom taunts investigators as he pledges to ‘turn the world upside down’ with new service called Mega

“Controversial Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom has revealed his plans to launch a new site.  In a series of tweets today he called on software developers to get in touch to get early access to the new service, called simply ‘Mega’.  He promised it will be a ‘massive global network’, and said it will ‘change the world.  Tweets confirm it will contain email and fax tools, along with video capabilities.  It is also expected to offer users a simple way to encrypt their data.  Dotcom is also believed to be working on a Megabox music service that he has promised will arrive later this year.”

“Various sources — I saw it on VentureBeat — are reporting that PricewaterhouseCoopers, the big accounting firm, might have been hacked and that cyberthieves have made off with Mitt and Ann Romney’s tax returns.  None of this is substantiated, but here’s the zany part: the hackers are asking for a $1-million ransom, to not release Romney’s tax returns, a source of campaign controversy, to the media.  The ransom must be paid in Bitcoin, the cybercurrency with a checkered past but a devoted following amond the tech-libertarian set.”

Labeled ‘the Wiki Weapon Project,’ the plan is to develop a prototype comprised of printable parts made out of plastic that can fire a .22 caliber bullet.”

Julian Assange arrest plan revealed accidentally

“Plans to seize Julian Assange ‘under all circumstances’ the moment he leaves the Ecuadorean embassy in London have accidentally been revealed by a police officer displaying restricted documents outside the embassy.  The document, pictured under the officer’s arm by a Press Association photographer, appears to advocate arresting the WikiLeaks founder whether he leaves the building in a diplomatic bag or in a diplomatic car.  The British government has threatened, under a 1987 Act, to enter the embassy and arrest the 41-year-old, but foreign secretary William Hague has said there is no intention to ‘storm’ the building.”
