“By front-loading the benefits, and by back-loading the costs, the politicians have extended the welfare state to encompass virtually every area of life.  ObamaCare is the exception. ObamaCare is front-loading the costs, and it is back-loading the benefits.  This is not insurance; this is a welfare state program, pure and simple. But it is being covered by the illusion that it is, in fact, an insurance program.  People who have pre-existing conditions that exclude them from getting insurance in the free market are rushing to sign up for the welfare program. People who are generally healthy, meaning younger people, are not rushing to sign up. They don’t want the program. They have been outvoted.”

School suspends 6-year-old for kissing girl on the hand

“As a result of kissing a fellow student on the hand during class, 6-year-old Hunter Yelton now has a permanent record.  His Colorado school district has a zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment, which school officials maintain the boy violated with his peck. The boy was suspended from first grade at Lincoln School of Science and Technology in Canon city, Colo. His mother is protesting the school’s actions as extreme and not age-appropriate.  School officials, who are not responding to further media requests, have told local media that the boy’s buss fits district standards for sexual harassment.”

Dismantle the euro, says Nobel-winning economist who backed it

“A Nobel prize-winning economist will on Thursday withdraw his support for the euro saying it has created a ‘lost generation’ unemployed youngsters and should be broken up. Sir Christopher Pissarides was once a key proponent of a single currency but will on Thursday accuse the euro of ‘dividing Europe’ and say action is needed to ‘restore the euro’s credibility in international markets’ and the ‘trust that Europe’s nations once had in each other’, according to the Daily Mail.  The Cypriot-British economist, who won the Nobel prize in 2010, is speaking days after Christine Lagarde, the head of the International Monetary Fund, insisted the crisis in the eurozone was not yet over.”

NSA Sent Undercover Agents to Spy on ‘World of Warcraft’

“The National Security Agency has been monitoring online games including World of Warcraft, Second Life and video games on Xbox Live, sometimes even using undercover agents disguised as trolls or orcs.  This is the latest revelation to come from documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, as first reported by The New York Times, ProPublica and The Guardian on Monday.  Since at least 2007, the NSA and its sister British spy agency the GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters) have worried that terrorists might use online video games to secretly plan attacks, drive fundraising efforts or simply communicate on unmonitored channels.”

ObamaCare’s Latest Numbers Don’t Add Up. You Will Pay the Difference.

“For ObamaCare to work, 40% of those buying healthcare insurance must be in the ‘rarely get sick’ age group of 18-34. Their money must fund the healthcare of the older buyers.  It turns out that only 28% are buying.  Forget www.healthcare.gov. The entire program is sinking statistically.  How many times does an unmarried male age 21-34 go to a physician? Six times. That means six times in the entire 13-year period.  Why will he buy health insurance? He won’t. ‘Most of them have zero health costs. In fact, the median health care spending for this group is exactly zero,’ said economist Douglas Holtz-Eakin, former head of the Congressional Budget Office.”

The market sets rules for vendors which Madison agrees make sense.  Begging is different.  That’s a form of free speech, protected under the First Amendment, explains Mark Ross, spokesman for the Portland Parks Bureau, which manages the city park and rents it to the Saturday Market.”
