“The girls said police approached them, and told them to leave because the park was closed. Police followed them out, the girls said, and one grabbed Khalia from behind in a chokehold, wrestling her to the ground.  ‘They said they asked for ID. I didn’t hear them,’ Khalia said.   Lamis said she told the cop to get off her sister, and the officer’s female partner threw Lamis to the ground. As they lay on the ground, the girls, who are Muslim, said the cops ripped off their hijabs, a Muslim headscarf.  A crowd quickly gathered, with many pleading with police to let the girls go, the sisters said. Police called for backup, and within moments, dozens of cops swarmed the scene.”

Virginia State Trooper inattentively plows into skateboarder, beats hasty exit

“A video showing a Virginia State Trooper striking a skateboarder with his police cruiser was published to YouTube Wednesday.  It is unclear, at this point, exactly when this incident happened and police didn’t give an exact date.  Sergeant Molnar said that Virginia State Police ‘are aware of this video as this incident occurred approximately nine months ago in the City of Richmond near the VCU campus.’  ‘I do not have any other details to provide to you,’ said Sergeant Molnar. ‘This is a personnel matter and state police does not have further comment on this matter.’  CBS 6 did find out that the trooper is still employed with the state police.”

New target shooters–those who have taken up the sport in the last five years–are younger, female and urban when compared to established target shooters, or those participating for more than five years, according to a survey commissioned by NSSF.  The report shows that one-fifth of target shooters in America first started participating in the shooting sports between 2008 and 2012. That means 20 percent of all target shooters began participating in the past five years.  The expansion of younger, female and urban-based participants coincides with the surge in firearms sales that occurred over the same 2008-2012 period.”
