Millennials Get It Wrong about Socialism

In North Korea, Black Markets Are Saving Lives

“Initially, these markets consisted of disorganized traders meeting in fields, facing seizure from police if they did not come up with a bribe.  Today, the jangmadang practice has led to fully-fledged markets, complete with stalls selling street food, smuggled electronics, ingredients, and clothes; certain markets allegedly grew to encompass upwards of a thousand stalls.  Today, the markets remain a crucial element of survival for many North Koreans, with some reports estimating that around 5 million (around a fifth of the overall population) are ‘directly or indirectly dependent on the markets’.”

Governments threatening teens for cutting grass without a business license

“Teenagers have been threatened by officials and other lawn services to show their city issued license before cutting a person’s lawn for extra summer cash.  Cutting grass is often one of the first jobs many have in the summer. But a business license in Gardendale costs $110. And for a job, just for a couple of months, that can be a bit extreme.”

This Kid Was Suspended for 10 Days Because He ‘Liked’ a Picture of a Gun on Instagram

“Middle-school student Zachary Bowlin didn’t bring a gun to school. He didn’t say the word gun. He didn’t do anything wrong, or dangerous, to merit a 10-day suspension from Edgewood Middle School in Trenton, Ohio.  Bowlin ‘liked’ a picture of a gun on Instagram. That’s it. He didn’t do this during school hours, with school resources, or on school property.”
