Sending Money Home: Technology or Bureaucracy?

“Some of the world’s poorest people depend on the money they receive from relatives working in developed countries. In fact, this money dwarfs the world’s official foreign aid budget, and the gap is increasing.  In 2011, total private flows of aid totaled $680 billion—almost five times the $138 billion official figure.  This increase in private aid is great news for all concerned.  Except, perhaps, for bureaucrats, who are loath to let good deeds go unpunished. World Bank and United Nations bean counters are denouncing remittance transfer fees as exploitative. The U.S. C.F.P.B. has issued a rule to crack down on supposed fraud and exploitation affecting the existing remittance-transfer infrastructure.”

Senator calls for Burger King boycott over tax inversion move to Canada

“The push for a boycott comes as Burger King plans to renounce its corporate citizenship in the United States and reincorporate in Canada.  Known as a ‘tax inversion,’ the move will allow Burger King to evade the 35% corporate tax rate in the US – the highest in the world, though most large corporations end up paying a significantly lower rate. In Canada, the corporate tax rate is 15%.  Sen. Sherrod Brown said a global minimum tax needs to be implemented to prevent companies from avoiding taxes.  Burger King is not currently being run by an American firm.  ‘The private equity fund that currently runs Burger King, 3G Capital, is Brazilian,” wrote Mark Gongloff.”

Understand the Emergence of the Marijuana Meme – Even In China

Anthony-Wile1

“We can see once more how misleading it is to characterize countries as people. ‘China’ may seem to be monolithically opposed to legal marijuana but its entrepreneurial class is already anticipating the possibility of participating in a post-prohibition world. And in Canada, certain business interests are obviously pressuring the current regime to be more flexible about marijuana consumption, especially in small amounts. Analyze political behaviors or entrepreneurial activities from the standpoint of culture and people rather than ‘lines on a map.’ When it comes to marijuana or any other industrial trend – large or small – a look behind the “curtain” is both beneficial and enlightening.”

Congress slams Fed’s permanent crisis lending proposal

“A bipartisan group of lawmakers on Monday urged the Federal Reserve to restrict its crisis lending programs for big banks.  Congress approved billions of dollars in 2008 to stabilize banks. In addition, the Fed launched its own programs, such as an overnight loan facility for primary dealers.  In all, the Fed provided more than $13 trillion to banks that relied on emergency lending programs for an average of 22 months, the letter said. ‘These loans were another bailout in all but name,’ the lawmakers said.  The group criticized rules the Fed proposed in December 2013 to implement the Dodd-Frank requirement that emergency programs provide liquidity to the entire financial system, not failing banks.”

US ‘told Syria rebels’ to seek intervention

“US officials have asked the Syrian opposition to call on the international community to hit positions belonging to the Islamic State group and help rebels eliminate the self-declared jihadists, Al Jazeera has learned from sources inside the opposition.  The Syrian National Coalition, the main political opposition bloc, and the leadership of the Free Syrian Army, a loose conglomeration of armed rebel, are expected to make the appeal from Turkey on Saturday, the sources said.  The US is carrying out air strikes on Islamic State targets in Iraq and a day after the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution that aims to weaken the Islamic State and al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda’s Syria branch.”

Directed History and the Promise of Cannabis in the 21st Century

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“The evolution of decriminalization is not merely an elite-driven sociopolitical movement; it is surely a purposeful effort to reset how the world responds to drugs.  But such a reset will tie to globalist ambitions to address drug issues on an international basis.  In this way, the cessation of the drug war would benefit proponents of internationalism.  Entrepreneurs can draw numerous conclusions from this emerging social theme.  Not only will other opportunities become apparent, but they will likely be long-lived.  At the same time, there will be increased multi-national regulation, legislation and interference. Businesspeople will be able to take advantage of the trend if they understand why it is occurring.”

BIS chief fears fresh Lehman from worldwide debt surge

“Jaime Caruana, head of the Swiss-based financial watchdog, said investors were ignoring the risk of monetary tightening in their voracious hunt for yield.  Mr Caruana said the international system is in many ways more fragile than it was in the build-up to the Lehman crisis. Debt ratios in the developed economies have risen by 20 percentage points to 275pc of GDP since then. Credit spreads have fallen to to wafer-thin levels. Companies are borrowing heavily to buy back their own shares. The BIS said 40pc of syndicated loans are to sub-investment grade borrowers, a higher ratio than in 2007, with ever fewer protection covenants for creditors.”

Atlantic Mag Shock: US No Longer Under ‘Rule of Law’

the-daily-bell-top-logo61

“Here comes The Atlantic magazine with a scathing article about the US’s rising lawlessness.  Perhaps the disconnect between what the US is supposed to stand for and the reality is simply getting too large to ignore. Alternatively, The Atlantic – as befits a publication involved in the globalist dialectic – is simply doing its share to inform readers that US lawlessness is growing worse, and that there is nothing they can do about it. Its goal is not solution but demoralization. Perhaps the article has a larger aim, which is to intimidate under the guise of providing an expose.  What is going on seems to us to be entirely planned out.”

UN Calls for Decriminalization of All Drugs

Anthony-Wile1

“The UN has now called for the decriminalization not just of marijuana but of other drugs as well, including so-called injectables. Our analyses are often correct, but in this case, we’re a little surprised at how fast confirmation has arrived.  Drugs will be legalized – at least in part – to allow the UN to create a more formalized regulatory regime around the world.  An editorial such as this would not be complete without noting the pitiless manipulation of laws and regulations for which elites are responsible. Millions, perhaps billions of lives have been negatively affected and even ruined by the merciless imposition of the so-called ‘war on drugs.'”
