Food Trucks Are Increasingly Serious Terrorism Threat, Says NYC’s Fire Department

“In an internal-use-only document, NYC’s Fire Department outlines its concerns about the increasing number of food trucks around New York. Not only are they serious fire hazards, but also a genuine terrorist threat. They say that it will be easy for evildoers to pack large quantities of explosive material into a food truck and conceal it.  There’s also a growing black market for permits, which opens the door for potential terrorist groups to obtain a truck with ease.  The document says that, according to the Department of Homeland Security, ‘a food cart can be used as an excellent surveillance platform due to their access and long duration stays.'”

The United Nations is calling for more surveillance of Internet users, saying it would help to investigate and prosecute terrorists. What are the organizations behind the suggestion of a ‘global surveillance state?’ The article writes that the UN report was ‘produced in collaboration with the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force, which counts the World Bank, Interpol, the World Health Organization, and the International Monetary Fund as members.'”

Middle East oil companies targeted in cyber war

“Middle Eastern oil and gas companies have been targeted in massive attacks on their computer networks in an increasingly open cyber war where a new virus was discovered just this past week.  US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta also referred publicly for the first time about the ‘Shamoon’ virus that hit Saudi Arabia’s state oil company Aramco in August, disabling more than 300,000 computers. The virus also hit Rasgas, a joint venture between US oil firm Exxon Mobil Corp and state-controlled Qatar Petroleum.  Panetta warned of the possibility of a ‘cyber-Pearl Harbor’ to justify a policy of moving aggressively against threats.”

Millions affected after cyber attack on HSBC

“An unknown group launched a so-called ‘denial of service’ attack on Britain’s largest bank on Thursday evening, crashing web-based services for about seven hours.  At its peak, HSBC was deluged with internet traffic 500 times its normal level, five times higher than the amount of traffic that hit the bank in a similar attack earlier this year.  US financial group Capital 1 is also understood to have been hit by a similar denial of service attack at the same time as HSBC.  Several parties have claimed responsibility for the attacks, which have been linked to Islamic groups protesting against controversial film The Innocence of Muslims.”

How many Muslims have American forces killed since 2001? I’ve found a low-end estimate for 1990 to 2009, and it’s 288,000. How many of these were Muslim terrorists? I can’t find a tally so far. The number is very, very small relative to 288,000. The tally for drone strikes is 2-3,000 with a high proportion being innocent people.”

300 protesters swarm Hollywood Boulevard in LA, clashes with police reported

“A group of 300 people, mainly skateboarders who attended a skateboarding movie premiere, filled an intersection of Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles Saturday evening. They reportedly threw bottles at police and clashed with officers.  Witnesses reporting seeing increased security at the scene, including a row of police cars. City authorities advised local shop owners to close their businesses and lock their doors.”

European Union wins Nobel Peace Prize

“While welcomed by European leaders, the award will have little practical effect on the debt crisis afflicting the single currency zone, which has brought economic instability and social unrest to several states, with rioting in Athens and Madrid.  On the streets of the Greek capital, where demonstrators have burned Nazi flags to protest against German demands for austerity, the award was greeted with disbelief.  The prize, worth $1.2 million, will be presented in Oslo on December 10. It was not immediately clear who from the EU would be there to collect the check and what it would be spent on.”
