Vera&John Becomes First Licensed Casino to Accept Bitcoin

“Large online casino Vera&John has become the first licensed and regulated online casino to accept bitcoin deposits.  The Malta-registered site began taking deposits from customers on Tuesday, automatically converting them to Euros which would then be paid into customers’ accounts on the site. Customers making bitcoin deposits made at Vera&John will only be able to withdraw those deposits in bitcoin.  A customer’s account can be used to play over 200 slot games on the site. The back end software that runs the games therefore doesn’t have to be adapted to work with bitcoin in any way.”

Silk Road Vendor Argues He Sold Legal Products For Seized Bitcoins

“Somewhere in the $164 million worth of bitcoins held by the U.S. government, there’s a chunk of the cryptocurrency that until very recently belonged to Peter Ward, a British self-described ‘cybertechnohippy’ and dealer in drug paraphernalia like bongs, marijuana seeds, and rolling papers. On Thursday, Ward began the process of retaining a lawyer to file a claim for what he says were 100 bitcoins seized by the FBI in the takedown of the Silk Road online black market for drugs last October. Ward says he earned his bitcoins through entirely legal means, offering the same merchandise that he advertises on the public Internet from his head shop Planet Pluto in Devon, England.”

Former Troy DARE officer sentenced

“A former Troy police officer convicted of stealing more than $13,000 intended for the DARE program was sentenced Monday to five years of community control and 60 days in the Miami County Jail.  Kirt E. Wright, 41, of Troy pleaded guilty in December to felony theft in office.  Judge James F. Stevenson of Shelby County sentenced Wright to a $500 fine and costs of the court action.  Wright was accused of misusing a credit card issued only for the purposes of the schools DARE program. The card was funded with money donated to the program.”

Man sues two officers for $100 million after he was wrongfully jailed

“A Cincinnati man sued two Norwood police officers for $100 million after he was wrongfully jailed for nearly two months on felony cocaine charges even though video footage would have shown they had the wrong man.  Maurice Snow, 29, filed the federal civil rights lawsuit against a detective and lieutenant at the Norwood Police Department on Monday, accusing them of turning his life upside-down and recklessly violating his constitutional rights by detaining him without probable cause.  WCPO reporter Amy Wadas talked with Snow on the phone just one day after he filed the lawsuit. He told her he cannot find work or a decent place to live.”

He said they hope for some kind of narrow exception in the state’s drug laws for children like Zoey.  Mark Woodward, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, said the agency is currently opposed to legalizing medications such as Charlotte’s Web. He said the agency believes for safety’s sake, the drug should go through the same federal approval process as others.”
