“Our friend and colleague Michael Hastings died early Tuesday morning in a one-car crash in Los Angeles. Wikileaks’ Twitter account is now reporting that hours before his death, Hastings contacted Wikileaks lawyer Jennifer Robinson saying he was being investigated by the FBI. Some establishment media outlets have taken care to try and assault Hasting’s character and achievements as a journalist. Cenk Uygur breaks it down.”

Homeland Security Admits Backpack Explosive Drill Planned Before Boston Marathon

“The Department of Homeland Security has gone public with an admission that an exercise was planned months before the Boston Marathon bombings that involved backpacks being used to detonate explosives by rogue terrorists.  According to the DHS documents acquired by the Boston Globe, the agents were planning on conducting training exercises centered around a fictitious terrorist group called ‘Free America Citizens’, a group that would plant backpacks full of explosives around Boston that the detectives would be forced to track down. Ultimately, of course, this ended up happening at the Boston Marathon itself with precise accuracy.”

Email from Michael Hastings before crash mentions FBI probe

“In an email sent hours before his death in a single-car L.A. crash, journalist Michael Hastings wrote that his ‘close friends and associates’ were being interviewed by the FBI and he was going to ‘go off the radar for a bit.’  According to the email, Hastings wrote he was working on a ‘big story’ and was going to disappear. He told his colleagues that if the FBI came to interview them, they should have legal counsel present.  Hastings was researching a story about a privacy lawsuit brought by Florida socialite Jill Kelley against the Department of Defense and the FBI.  The FBI said Hastings was never under investigation by the agency.”

WikiLeaks: Journalist Michael Hastings Under FBI Investigation Before Death

“The document-leaking organization WikiLeaks says journalist Michael Hastings called the organization’s attorney hours before his death Tuesday in a fiery one-car crash in Los Angeles. Hastings, 33, was known as a hard-charging reporter who caused Gen. Stanley McChrystal to lose his job as commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan with an explosive 2010 story in Rolling Stone, in which he quoted McChrystal offering unsavory commentary about the Obama administration. In his final article, Hastings wrote of revelations that the NSA was harvesting large quantities of phone and Internet information. The FBI declined to say if Hastings was under investigation.”

Father Of Florida Man Connected To Tsarnaev: FBI Killed My Son ‘Execution-Style’

“The father of a Chechen immigrant killed while being interrogated by the FBI about his ties to a Boston Marathon bombings suspect says agents killed his son ‘execution style,’ reports AP. There was even a shot to the back of the head. At a press conference Thursday in Moscow, Abdul-Baki Todashev showed journalists 16 photographs he said were of his son, Ibragim, in a Florida morgue. He said his son had six gunshot wounds to his torso and one to the back of his head and the pictures were taken by his son’s friend, Khusen Taramov. WESH-TV is reporting that unidentified FBI sources now say that Todashev was unarmed.”

Man who knew Boston bombing suspect was unarmed when killed by FBI during questioning

“A Chechen man who was fatally shot by an FBI agent last week during an interview about one of the Boston bombing suspects was unarmed, law enforcement officials said Wednesday. An air of mystery has surrounded the FBI shooting of Ibragim Todashev, 27, since it occurred in Todashev’s apartment early on the morning of May 22. The FBI said in a news release that day that Todashev, a former Boston resident who knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed during an interview with several law enforcement officers.  The FBI has provided few other details, saying that the matter is being investigated by an FBI review team.”
